I almost hijacked someons post with this.

My wipers chatter on the return pass. I hate this problem and have never found a good solution. Keeping them clean and new blades regularly is my usual approach. Since I just bought the car I think the blades are old and dry from sitting, glass is dirty. I am going to look into having the windshield polished. Thoughts anyone?

Mine did it on my aerovic and they do it just as bad on the marauder. Especially on the driver side, of course. Teflon blades help for awhile, but after a few months they start doing it too. Somebody was advertising a brand that was "designed for todays curved windsheilds". Forgot who, I think trico maybe. Anybody tried those?

I've used the Bosch Icons (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IYDEPG/ref=asc_df_B000IYDEPG972743?sm id=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000IYDEPG) and Michelin ones (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02825039000P?vNa me=Automotive&cName=AccessoriesforIn-storePick-up&sName=Wiper%20Blades&psid=FROOGLE01&sid=I0084400010000100600&aff=Y&origin=prod) similar to the icons. They seem to be softer than others I had tried and seem to last a good long while. They don't have individual pressure points. They have one long ridge that goes the entire length of the wiper and applies pressure evenly. When they are off the windshield, they have a pretty good consistent curve in them.

Try wiping the rubber with a little Son of a Gun periodically. Helps keep them supple.

I've had that problem with both of the cars I've driven. Doesn't help in my case I imagine that I live in the dead middle of South Texas heat. An older gentlemen I met at a car wash once struck up a conversation about my Marauder with me and mentioned that he rubs a small amount of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol up and down the length of each blade's rubber and his have lasted him for years apparently. I can in no way verify this idea.

I've used the rubbing alcohol trick on my wiper blades in the past, and have had good luck with it as well.

So far on the MM, I've switched to Bosch blades and make it a point to wipe them down whenever I wash the car and that has eliminated the chatter problem for me.

Rubbing alcohol, really!!! i would have thought that would dry them out quicker. I'll have to try that if starts to happen. Just bought a set of Trico Flex wiper blades bout a week ago. Gettin ready for winter.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but it works well.

Yes, rubbing alcohol gets all the grime and grease off the blades.

I use Glass Scrub and Rain Clear to clean and treat my cars windows.

Can be found at most FLAPS.

BTW.. just replaced wiper blades on the Marauder and the wife's Charger (both are 22"). Got RainX blades at Ollies.... $1.99 each , at that price I can replace them every 6 months!

Hi Stran

If new wiper baldes do not cure it it means your wipers are probably not at 90 degrees to the windshield, try giving the wiper arm a little twist.

I am just now replacing my first pair of Bosch Icons----after 2 years. Best wipers I've ever run.

The only reason I bought the michelin's the last time was because they didn't have the length I needed in bosch.

I just bought a new set of Motorcraft wiper blades and they work great. No chatter. $20 at the Ford parts desk.

There is something to the rubbing alcohol though. My Subaru's replacement blades came with a couple isopropyl alcohol wipes to clean the blades after they get grimy.

I should get you guys a picture of the Michelins I just took off. The edge is a relief map of the Rocky Mountains. The passenger side is the one that chatters first for me. Wish we had those wedges that keep the blades from resting on the glass when parked. :mad2::mad::censor:

I totally agree with Glockafella, I have switched to RianX on everything, there are the best blades I have used in 25 years. $20 each at pep boys, always in stock at every store I have been in. we use a standard size. My girlfriend was like "$20 bucks,,,, each? really? you really have no budget on this car do you?" LOL they work well fellas.

I've never herd of wedges? Is this something that you can buy or is it something self made? Sounds interesting.:)

Menards had 22" blades for $1.50 each. I bought 2, just because. Big surprise-they were made in China!

When I worked at the auto parts store a few years back all of the Bosch blades came with alcohol wipes so you could clean them after they have been used for a while.

When I bought my car it had the cheaper of the 2 RainX series blades on there and were still working great after a year. The only reason I changed them is that the black paint started to peel off of them so I just changed them to keep Maybellene looking good. Other than that no complaints and I have tried just about every type known to man.

the alcohol wipes that come with new blades are to clean them the first time because the new blades still have some mold release on them................read the instructions! they aren't for cleaning them 6 months later

When I was still working at the parts store they hadn't invented instructions yet!!! :P

Bought some refills at NAPA the other day. NAPA brand made by Trico and they work really well. I think it was 8 bucks for the set. They came in a NAPA blue sleeve can't remember the name as old went into the sleeves and the G'man took them away.

I just put on some new Trico Neoforms this weekend. We'll see how that goes. It's only my third set of blades for the car in 5 years - I'm a wiper blade slacker. These are the fully covered - no exposed metal to catch ice - plus smoothly arched to supposedly lay tight to the window. I'll report later this winter.

On the recommendation of someone here a long time ago, I started using the $7.97 Michelin blades from WalMart. They work as well as the Bosch MicroEdge XL and the NAPA silicone blades I've tried and cost a lot less.

The wedges I was talking about are used on other cars and on the backs of some SUVs. I don't know what it is with my car, except maybe it sits out in the elements 24/7. I can't keep wipers for more than 3 months. The passenger side is the first to go because of the wave the squigee gets in it if it doesn't rain for awhile. After that it's a chatter fest. I tried the Michelins because winter is coming up and I hate when metal frame blades curl up their ends because of icing. I might try the Bosch with the rebate and leave them off unless they call for rain. :shake::depress:

I've been using the Rain-X solution on my windshields for years. You almost do not need wipers as the water beads off similiar to when you just waxed your paint. Just coat all your glass per instructions and then use the Rain-X soaked towel to wipe your wiper blades. I've had the same wiper blades on my old Crn Vic for more than 3 years by doing this. Usually do this once a month during the monsoons...

I can't use the more expensive blades with the Teflon insert, they wipe so well they leave no lubrication for the blade and they chatter even new unless i run the wipers really slow. I am using the neoform blades right now and they are chatter free but they do not conform 100% to the window like an old style blade would. They just look cool is all. Advance auto almost completely phased out any old style suspension blades and they are all beam blades now except for the extreme bargain basement blades -- great.

The only wipers I was ever thrilled with were the OEM Ford blades. They had some sort of coating on them that made them wipe really well until the coating wore off around 25k miles and started leaving black on the glass at the stop points. I don't think you can get OEM blades that are the same kind our cars shipped with though.

A trick I learned years ago is set the wiper blades in the up sweep position when you park the car. Every time you shut the wipers off, they are in the down sweep position.
