Nice microsoft block

I guess it really is true that some people can't hear detonation.
That's rough man :(

Very Sorry for your loss!!!
Very Well Done! Multiple rod holes in the side of the block. This can happen at surprisingly low rpm if the timing gets too far ahead.
I hope the financial burden is not overwhelming but try and look at it this way - A new Motor for the New Year!

I am a mechanic by trade and take pride at my abilities to hear what a motor is doing, I really didn't hear anything, even when it let go. The only way I knew it let go other than an immediate and total loss of power was the smoke in the rear view....
I went through the lights at 104 and was just going to let off. I didn't look at the tach but in 3rd w/od off i don't think I over-revved.
I have never blown a motor that I wasn't trying to blow up before. I have done a few on purpose though.

The bright side is I bought the car from someone from PA and it had seen some snow days. Now it has gotten a high temp Amsoil undercoating!

That's the spirit!
It will be better and faster when you fix it!

Plus I am bound to get at least one cool paperweight out of the deal!

It would make a good anchor when fishing. Another S/C bites the dust. Better luck with the replacement.

There's eight piston/ashtrays!!

Autograph them and sell 'em! It will help off-set the cost of the rebuild!

that looks intense, and amazing how it went quiet.
new motor is alot stronger.

doesn't matter if the new motor is strong, det. will still put a hole in the side of the block... need to figure out what caused it first

Absolutely,
I told Ryan at Injected that i had to know cause of failure and to correct it so it doesn't happen again.
They seem to think it was directly related to the IAT2 sensor mod not being done.

Probably gonna need some quick-set epoxy to fill those holes.

You do need to determine the cause of the blow. Several things can be done - Have Eric look at the tune on his computer at WOT and check the total timing advance and the fuel pressure tables. The hot lapping combined with 93 gas with perhaps too much timing were the main elements. But, your fuel pressure could also have leaned out. Honestly, if you car is at Eric's I would change out the fuel pump to a GT pump - cheap insurance for the future.

The IAT2 is another backup insurance policy if too hot gas is entering the engine. Normally, it is not needed except if your SC intercooler fails or you are running too high and hot boost. But, it will not sense low fuel pressue. I do not have a IAT2 and run nearly 500 HP with a stock internal engine when running at the track and have run hot laps many times. But, I have never run my MM NA or SC without race gas. I would definitely do the IAT2 mod while Eric is building the engine. It is not expensive, but must also be incorporated into the tune.

Also, I strongly suggest you mod your FRPS to read boost. This simple 10 minute mod incorporated into your tune is in my opinion far more valuable then the IAT2. You will have many more possible instances of low fuel pressure at WOT then too hot boost air.

Concerning not hearing detonation while racing - I doubt you ever will. I did not use my Line-Lok to do a proper burn-out at Steele, AL this summer and got in and out of the fuel tables too quickly with the gas petal leaning the engine. Line-Locs are required to do safe and good burnt-outs - don't let anyone tell you different.

Good Luck,

Glenn Ford :burnout:

Aric will be doing a complete check-out and correction of any fuel delivery issues as well as a complete dyno tune.
I figure with what it cost to fix why skimp on doing whatever it needs to prevent another failure.
They will be doing both the FRPS and IAT2 mods.
