View Full Version : Remote start causing bad injector code

Ok so I have a viper remote start/theft system and the remote start wire is just attached to cyclinder 4's fuel injector. I don't know how its supposed to be wired but whoever installed the kit just spliced some of the power wire that goes to the fuel infector and just wrapped the power wire for the remote start to it no connector or nothing just w***** the wires together. Every once in a while the car will start running like crap and throwing a bad fuel injector code being the one with the wire wrapped to it. I shut the car off and unwrapped the wire and all was good. Has anybody else had a problem similar to this. I really like my remote start to warm the car up but I can't take a chance of it ruining something until I find out what's wrong.????

My FoMoCo starter Is installed in a similar way. I had a pro (same guy that does 15 FLM dealers in my area) do the install for me. There is one wire that goes to the passenger side injector closest to the firewall. (is that #4?) and my system works perfect-o.
I asked him if that would slow me down at all and he said no. It's only used to start the car, once it's running it doesn't' do anything.

Yes passenger side all the way in the back, how are your wires connected, mine are just bare wrapped around each other.

I had a FoMoCo set up on mine. The dealer did the install and hacked it in in the same half azzed way.
My remote start now lives at the bottom of a land fill because of all the problems it gave me.

That is a classic problem with remote starts, if it's not done properly it's going to disrupt proper voltage from the injector.

I think thats to detect engine rpm?

It's better to tap off the coil pack, any wire that is NOT Red or Red/Green will work. It's used at a tach signal sense wire.
If you had it installed take it back and tell them to fix the problem or take it out and get a refund cause it's messing up your car.
Any shop that is an AUTHORIZED DEI (Viper, Clifford, etc) dealer must offer Lifetime warranty on the work and system.

mine are just bare wrapped around each other. whoever did that install is a moron. Either solder the wire on correctly or use a Scotchlok.

HA! Sorry about that Marty. Up here the FLM's outsource it to a specialist.
I got the guys cell and ended up going to his house.

My FLM guy used a 3m connector deal. Don't have the name...

I installed an aftermarket remote start and have had no problems. Took over 8 hours but I know it's done right with all the connections soldered and heat shrink tubed.

That's the only reason keeping me from doing a remote start/alarm on mine cause I would solder and heat shrink everything, way beyond professional means and would take FOREVER lol. I do a lot of vehicle wiring soldering as it is with my job anything outside of work would still feel like work.

scotch locks are ghetto but they are better than twisting wires together and taping them!

AArrgg!! :shake: Solder with heatshink is the way to go for wiring connections. If not, then the "Scotchlock" will work ok as well.
My alarm/remote start seems to be connected to the forward cylinder on the driver's side. It's probably to pickup an rpm signal for some reason. The alarm unit was already in the vehicle when I bought it so I don't know what type it is.

I should get a remote starter. There isn't anything worse than getting into a cold car time after time when not properly dressed for the cold. I found a great guy at Mobile Electronics Studio in Dennis Ma. He also does all the car starters installations at the local dealers. I would need part of my tune changed to bring up Idle upon initial start if possiable.

My POS work van starts in freezing weather and just idles normally...I really don't like the way the Marauder goes VROOM when it starts.
