Shorty Headers with CARB EO# D-216-28! Jdenning Thanks for the find man! John (NorCal member) also had the Kooks LT and all they look for is a CARB OE# to pass the visuals. I see these in my FUTURE!

Any member here run these?

I believe they have a CARB # that applies to the Mustang. Sort of like the Kenne Bell has a CARB # for their twin screw on a Mustang but not a Marauder. Check the CARB # and see what cars it applies to. Same with the Cobra shorties. Good luck.

The only reason you have a CARB # for the Vortech kit on the Marauder is that it is listed for the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis and CARB doesn't know that a Marauder engine is totally different from the CV/GM. You posted up a list awhile back which showed the Vortech CARB EO #'s listed, maybe there is a similar list for the headers?

Jdennings passed visuals with just having the CARB EO# visible; as long as they see this your golden. I recently passed with my JLT CAI, aftermarket SCT MAF, (which have no CARB) the tech didnt bother with those. Very few headers are CARB certified. He also had a Paxton 1500SL SC with the EO# from the Mach I and received the Mach I EO # stickers and passed. The CARB folks will let it slide; I spoke to Lonnie at Blue Oval at length about this (he used to live in Cali). Now because the Cobra is a different motor (forged/SC) even though they are 4.6 4v they will not use EO's from them (BS). They will pretty much allow the Mach I parts with EO# to be used on the Marauder because they have the identical (engine/trans) power train.

Just spoke to JBA tech support and they say it wont bolt up to our mid pipe and EGR is on the opposite side.....

That's the same as the cobra shorty headers, the general consensus is it's definately doable if you do some sort of EGR relocation mod and get the magnaflow cobra x pipe then extend the piping off of that a few inches back to make up the distance difference from the mustang wheel base to ours.

Really comes down to cost effectiveness here, are you purely looking for the CARB certification?

Right, I dont want to pull off every 2yrs or have a friend of a friend smog for me....All I need is a CARB OE#. I'll have to ping Glenn I think he did the FRPP Shorty Header and EGR relo. So there's still hope.

You know what I almost did in 06 (Apex, North Carolina)! Instead bought a bigger house and mortgage thinking I could sell in a few years (I bought because it was a steal...little did I know) then the housing market took a dump.....and I am now stuck for the foreseeable future! Luckily I have my wifes 06 GT to play with too....LOL

Call JBA - as far as I know they are 99% identical to FRPP. You will need the Magnaflow #93335 Cobra hi flow X-pipe (two rear CATS), but double check with JBA.

Why not go with FRPP  - you should be able to get 25% off of their catalog prices. But, on the other hand, why go with the shorties they are conclusively proven to be a non-performer (check my past dyno report ). Just look at my sig = 11.80 with OMG FRPP shorties!

In all honestly, with your super built engine I would go with LTs - SSW or Kooks. LTs are best with NA engines in your range. SC engines in my HP range run just fine with shorties - in fact I get more torque off the line with them then with LTs, but give up some top end mph. Plus, the car is quiet and a super sleeper -I hate cabin drone. I enjoy listening to my new Escape Audiophile "blaster".

Hey Glenn hoping you would chime in. I have to check but was looking for the CARB # for the FRPP Shorties but didnt know which ones to look up? Do you have a part number? I know JBA has a CARB # hence the reasoning I was looking at those. For the FRPP shorties did you have to do some modifications for the EGR relocation?

I am tempted to go FULL Stainless Works believe me. I just have to find a friend somewhere every 2yrs. Right now just trying to flush every option out and open to different combos Shorties/Magnaflow Catted X-Pipe/...but if I find a friend pulling the trigger on the LT in the spring.

If I recall, the stock EGR tube fits but requires an adapter fitting to connect to the Cobra shorties. I assume the JBA shorties would be the same.

M-9430-E464: SS - not recommended
M-9430-E465: Ceramic Coated - highly recommended
