Well I am trying to consider all of my options here. I have priced getting my Transmission rebuilt locally and have received fair quotes from a couple of reliable shops for an overhaul minus hard parts (planetary gears and such). My decision lies in what I should or shouldn't replace besides the essentials.

If the overall cost of the local rebuild is fairly high, I will just park the car for a few months and send it of to a big dog transmission specialist like levelten, lentech, or bc automotive. Darrin gave me good input and a fair price already.

1st question is what is in the Art Carr Stage 2 kit? From an archive from 2005 I got the following input from Fordnut.
(Art Carr makes a high performance 4R70W tranny kit with heavy duty kevlar clutches, bands, etc.

Dennis Reinhart sells that kit along with a hardened stub shaft and spiralok retaining ring to replace a high failure rate snap ring. In addition he provides a modification which provides forced lube to the tailshaft bushing and instructions to modify the valve body for higher shift pressures.)

Is this pretty much it or are there any other things I would want to let the shop know about? It seems as though it was a complete high performance rebuild kit.

Obviously if I need a rebuild/overhaul the clutches, bands, steels, seals, o-rings, etc... will be replaced. I am going to stick to performance parts for these items and was wondering what might be salvageable or reusable such as the valve body and TC.

I have already spoken with PI about sending the TC back for a rebuild and upgrading it to a triple disk unit. This is something I will definitely be doing if the pan has any kind of crap in it.

Keep in mind I do not have a ton of flow set aside for this and am looking for a good source for these parts so that I make sure I get what I want for the internals. Just not sure who out there makes good parts for these trannys. Thanks for the help guys.

I am also considering buying jdenning's transmission he currently has for sale. It seems to be a viable cost effective option but I am concerned about being able to transfer over various aspects of my current setup such as the TC, valve body, and rear lubrication mod. I know everything would go right in but I am not sure if it would void the existing Ford warranty on the transmission. Also would it even be worth it to swap the Art Carr stage 2 valve body over or would it be better to just do the J-Mod?

I also worry a little bit about the longevity of a stock rebuilt tranny when I hoping on having my eaton swap done by this time next year. How would this hold up to over 400hp in a daily driver with occasional trips to the strip?
