I've been told it's "piston slap" I've also been told it "wrist pin slap"
It happen only sometime, but it's when requires allot of torque. So basically when ever you WOT.
sounds like a marble floating around in the lower portion of the engine.

could just be alot of carbon build up causing spark knock. go to your dealer and get their motorvac fuel system cleaner done

Detonation! :help:
You think? I thought that only happens in higher rpms...
When the dealership installed the Mustang engine they said something about having to reflash the computer due to something about the knock sensors... either having them or not having them Vs the oem engine having them or not. I don't remember.
If this is true and it is "knock" how could I go about fixing this?
Wait now that you mention knock, And I really think about it.... This noise does kinda go away when I run 93 octane. Well it doesn't happen as often I should say. So maybe this noise is knock then lol.

Hahaha it's so funny that you say this, Because about 8k miles and a different motor ago that is what happened. The last cyl on the drivers side throw the rod completely out the side of the block. Hence the reason for the engine swap.

Sounds like you need a date with a modular motor dyno shop/tuner
knock will occur under higher loads, does not have to be high rpm to be high load

the "marble" sound only on hard accel is usually just spark knock. i wouldnt mess around tho. i'd head to your dealer to have them properly diagnose it. don't keep beating on it

You need to get that car to a tuner asap. Sounds like detonation to me.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. I will be sure to call the dealer that did the install tomorrow first thing.
Cheers to you fellas

So I called the dealer and explained to them over the phone my situation, And what I thought was the problem. They said that they do not believe the issue was "knock" but something wrong internally with the engine.
Funny thing is, Since this post and talking with the dealer I ran the tank down to fumes and topped it off with 93oct. Since the full tank of 93oct I have not had any issue with this supposed noise.
This would lead me to believe it was "knock" or "detention" I just do not know how I am going to get the dealership to take my word for it.

It is detonation. The dealer is a waste of time. Run premium only. And find a good tuner.

You should run this octane at all times.

+1 Listen to this. A mustang can run a ton more timing because it's LIGHTER. You have a very heavy car.

Click on that find an SCT dealer in your area, drive to them, pay for a dynotune.
You are however getting the best power and mileage by running 93.

This is very true! Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I would have never thought about that. WOW:lol:

Well I think I am going to just baby it for now until I finish getting together all the parts I want to install. Even though it's needed ASAP it would be kinda stupid for me to pay all the money for a tune then have to get it returned again.
Would someone with one of those power programmers be able to adjust the time or what ever to resolve this issue?
By the way guys, all of you here at MM are 10x more knowledgeable then those over at CV. It's either that or they just do not like to lend a helping hand.

You need an SCT dealer, yes they can adjust your timing on your cars computer along with a bunch of other things. Find a good SCT dealer with a dyno in your area and you'll be good. Until then run 93.
p.s. There is a lot of good tech on CVN, you have to attempt to learn and read to get the best help.
Good luck!

The best thing is to have your car / motor dyno tuned. All motors are different and dyno tuning will give you a custom tune for your particular setup.
A generic tune is best used for getting you to someone that can dyno tune your car.
ONLY run 93 octane unless you have a specific tune for lower octane.
Most competent shops that can dyno tune a Mustang can dyno tune a Marauder.

So their isn't like a hand held unit that can do this? I actually have to have my car dyno'd?
p.s. If you couldn't already tell by all my threads and questions, I am making a very good effort to learn, read and get all the facts I can.
If I make a proper thread and no one responds I take that as a sign no one knows the answers I seek. Here I don't have that problem... There I do.

I know the ins and outs of tuning... Been through it numerous times, But thanks

You could just get a canned tune and put it in the car, then adjust timing by trial & error. But it's just a shot in the dark if you don't have a dyno tune. And if you get it wrong you could blow the engine. You'll have to get a xcalibrator or similar device with a base tune for your PCM code and have whoever you buy it from leave the timing parameters set as user-adjustable.
There is another option. It's an aftermarket knock sensor that automatically retards timing when it detects detonation. It's called the Vampire, made by J&S Electronics. It's pricey, about as much as an initial dyno tune and much more than a re-tune especially if you know your tuner and have a good relationship. I've been considering getting one for my car so I feel safer driving it between the time I add mods and have it re-tuned.
