I have a possible option of buying a cheap used tranny from a friend but I wasn't sure what vehicles and years the 4R70W could be swapped out of and bolt right into the MM. Is the 4R70W for the 5.4 F150 the same as the one in our cars? What about the Mustang GT tranny? Definitely would not go w/one off a 3.8 but have a a couple of cheap options that could get me by until I could afford the real deal rebuild.
Will it bolt up the same and are the any other difference I should be aware of. I know the 4R70W in our cars is the same from 98-03 but wasn't sure if there was a difference between the ones used in various vehicles throughout these years.
Any info you guys could help me w/would be great. Thanks guys.

So the 4R70W from any other vehicle besides a MM or GM will not work?
I know the bolt pattern should be the same for the 4.6 and 5.4 engines but what is the difference that won't allow a mustang or truck transmission to work in the MM?
Is it something to do with the electronic controls for the tranny or is there some kind of mechanical difference that doesn't allow for it?

Check with Darrin. I believe that the torque converter from the 5.4 F150 is not the same.

Thanks but I am not worried about the TC. I have a 3k PI that I will be sending to get reworked and upgraded to the triple disk if I find any crap in the pan when I drop it.
My main concern is if I can use the tranny itself, or if there are any gear ratio differences or tailshaft housing lengths I would need to be concerned about.
Probably won't happen because there seems to be to many unknowns surrounding this and I don't want to waste a couple hundred dollars now on a unit that may or may not work correctly if I still need to rebuild mine down the road.

All modular motor 4r70w's will bolt from one car to the next.

Thank you sir. Now I need to decide if one of these local options is worth it. Do you know if there will need to be any tuning changes needed if I swap over my valve body, TC, and rear lube kit?
Also I think one of them is possibly a 4R75W. I swear I read these would also work in an 03 car just not sure of what tuning changes would be needed to do this if any.
