View Full Version : How does one know which production number car they have
Please forgive me, but how would I determine which # car I have. I see the number 541 on the engine, on the front left side of the Block. The car is a 2003 Blue Marauder. I guess it's a 300B, it has heated seats, map pockets, under hood light, traction control, the black valve covers. Is the VIN number sequential. I was just curious.
Forgive the newbie type questions, been doing lots of reading and getting even more confused. Love the car though too bad I am putting it away for winter.
Thanks!

All Blue MMs are 300B's. VINs are not sequential because GMs were mixed in with MMs on the line. Contact "RoyLPita" by PM for your number or contact Ford Performance Group (FPG) and get your certificate with #s from FORD.

IIRC the production numbers provided from RoyLPita differ slightly from the FPG numbers, for some reason.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll explore these suggestions and bring some feedback.
Time to put the kids to bed.

This is common to all '03 MMs. It has to do with the 5, 6, 7 VIN digits. For 2003 the Marauder shared the M75 designation with the Grand Marquis. It was changed to M79 in 2004.
M75 - Mercury Grand Marquis
M79 - Mercury Marauder
The 8th digit is a "V". So the insurance companies knew it was a Marauder with the 4.6L 302 HP DOHC V-8 and picked it up as a performance vehicle. Unfortuantely, letters from F-L-M still reference my Grand Marquis. And it shows in the FORD computers as a GM. On service orders, I make it a point to have them scratch out "Grand Marquis" and write in "Marauder".

Charlie,
I have the '04 and I still get service letters from my dealer that say GM - it's annoying. You'd think they would get it right on the '04s.
