How long before we get a thread that explains how the wheel fell off the wall and caused damage?

No worries about it falling. I used really strong cord.
I was going to put it outside but I had the same thought about if getting stolen.
My smoke machine died this Halloween.

Thanks to a broken garage door spring my hood already needs some cheering up. It's on my to-do list this spring.

Like it. At least you found use for the extra continental tire and rim. Mine are still collecting dust.

I had a garage door spring snap about 6-7 years ago. Dayum thing sounded like an explosion in the garage. Good thing that nothing important was in there at the time or that I wasn't standing at the work bench. The previous owner (or the original installers) short cut the restraining cable that runs inside the spring to keep it from whipping around in the event it breaks.
Each spring weighs about 5 pounds --- I would imagine that something that heavy coming at 90-100 MPH would do some serious damage, injury or worse.
Check your garage dor springs for the restraining cable inside the spring itself.

I have torsion springs. It wasn't the springs that did the damage. It was the door. Door went up I started in. Spring broke, door came down onto hood.

That sucks. I have a fear of one of my garage door springs coming off and hitting me in the head! I need to get new ones with the center safety cable.

They obviously don't know you Ron, you probably did a load test, tensile test, etc. then doubled the strength of the hanger!:D

Nah... I just swag'd this one. I hung from the rope first. If it'll hold my fat a$$ it'll hold a tire and rim. It's tied to an electrical conduit pipe concreted into the wall.

Weigh the door before you go to Lowes to get the replacement springs. You can't go by the diameter and the color codes don't seem to be universal.

I called the pros on that one. The tech was in and out in 30 minutes. I would have futzed with with it most of the day.

Ha, Ha. This is what my father used to call "A 5-Minute Job". Can't tell you how many of those 5 minute jobs that lasted half a day. I still chuckle if I can finish a 5-minute job in less than 30 minutes..... not counting refrigerator time. :D

Oh my...
You read my mind. Can you see the insurance agent's look on his/her face as she hears, and then types, "lighted rim /wheel/ tire wreath falls onto hood and damages hood, right front drivers headlight, grill, and top of bumper."
My dad always said, "Never put anything on top of a ladder that you don't want to fall on your head."
