Tomorrow i'll be signing the paper work for my MM, providing i dont turn away from it. Its a 2003 300A black MM. Its a dealers demo with 7k miles on it. There selling it for about $29500. Is that a good price for a car with that miles on it? They said i still would have the 3/36k warranty from the currant miles, so no skin off my teeth there. I was just wondering if this is good before i give in.

With 15 years in auto retail, I don't think is a good price. A quick check of www.cars.com shows several MM with 1,000 to 9,000 miles with prices as low as $24,500 to $26,900. And that's just the "asking price". From shopping for an '04 MM and researching my trade, I'd pay no more than $27,000 for an 03 demo with that mileage. www.kbb.com show retail at $27,200 for a MM.
I'd rather have a well taken car of, one-owner MM than a demo that many have driven. Demo should sell for less than a comparable one-owner car. Show the salesmanager what's for sale else where and get that price down.

I think $29,500 is high for a dealer demo with 7K miles on it. Is this after the rebate? There was a thread on the board several days ago of a dealer selling new (I think) for $26500. You will also only have the remaining balance of the 3yr/36000 mile warranty. With 7K on the clock, you'll only have 29K left. I believe, I may be wrong, that the mileage warranty starts at the 0 point regardless of demo miles. It's just like the extended warranty, if you by a 100K policy from FMC, you're actually only getting 64K additional coverage, not a full 100K. There are some after market warranty companies that offer a true 100K policy that starts with the mileage when purchased and goes a full 100K from that point. As much as I'd like to see another MM on the road, I believe with some searching and bargining, you can find a better deal. I only paid $29K for mine new, off the truck with 6 miles on it, in November '02. My $.02's!

ultravorx,
$29500 seems rather exhorbitant, in my opinion.
Please consider the following:
I bought a 2004 DTR on 10/20/03 for $31089, including 6 disc CD and heated seats.
Michigan state sales tax @ 6% added $1935, including options.
The following options were added:
Spoiler @$450
Tire/wheel insurance coverage @$299
Exterior/interior surface treatments @ $409.
Total price $34205.
But, applied rebates totalled $5000...$29205 out the door, including title @ $15 & plate transfer fee @ $8.
You may want to re-consider purchasing this 2003 demo.

3 weeks ago, I bought a new 2004 with 10 miles on it for $29,500 - (including rebate).
In my opinion, the 2003 with 7k miles on it is worth $25,000 considering you can find a NEW 2003 for $26,500.
Mercury currently has a $4,000 rebate on the new 2003 and a $3,000 rebate on a new 2004.
Good luck.

Frank, it is a lousy price. I bought a Ford demo with 7800 miles on it in August for 23K. They are not even close in price. You could get a brand new 04 with no miles for less than the price they are quoting you.
Walk away and keep shopping.

Unless that's Canadian $$$ or they are going to offer you lots of rebates on top of that number, I would most definitely take a pass!
The "in service" date may protect you on the term of the warranty and give you the full 3/36. Remember though that that kind of mileage on a dealer demo means its all "drive it like ya stole it mileage." Who babies a dealer demo? My opinion is get a fresh (or, as TAF spells it, "phresh") one.
Just so you know, I paid less than that on a 30 mile car (the mileage too and from the 'roof installer) back in February '03.
Tell 'em to keep the car or drop the price by at least $4 or $5K.
Good luck and let us know how you make out. In the words of jgc2003 "Welcome to the best site on the net!" :D

I agree with the group. My car, also a dealer demo, set me back $25,900.
Shop around.

Way too high $$$!!! IMHO I would never even consider a demo of a car like the MM, because you can count on it being beat. When I bought my MM with 8 miles on it, I asked the salesman to guarantee not one of those miles was by that dealer. His response? "The one we all beat the heck out of is that black one over there with 200 miles on it". Rest my case...buy new!

"$29,500" for your '04 was BEFORE tax and license, but INCLUDING destination, yes?
ultravorx:
What 67435animal paid ($23K) sounds about right. Offer him $23K, then start walking out the door. Actually, RUN out the door. Drive to another dealer ASAP.

I got my 2003 300A for $29,600 6 months ago out the door title tax and tag were included, it was a demo with 3,900 miles.
Like all have said here...keep shopping...you're being "hosed" at that price.

I took ownership of a 2003 300b on 10/6 for $27, 748 before tax, title, and tags. It only had 87 miles. And I live in NY and bought the car in NC.
You can do better.

Hey you can get a 2004 for about 28, 750 in south fl. I negotiated for that amount. I really wanted A plan which would have brought it to 27650

Since there weren't too many Marauders in L.A. at the time I purchased (March 2003), it seemed to be difficult to get the fire sale pricing others here have been seeing in the Midwest and Southwest. I think New York and L.A. markets are priceier by definition.
Don't know where you live, ultravorx, but if you search this site a bit, you'll find some dealers were pricing '03 300As and 300Bs VERY agressively. If it were my money, I would get an '04 for the (modest) improvements to the drivetrain and the addition of a second knock sensor (paying not a penny more than Directedby's price of $29.5K), OR find a DESPARATE dealer in a depressed market trying to move an '03 300A at a FIRESALE price (like $23K). I would've TOTALLY purchased a 300A over the 300B I got to save that kind of cash!

Hope you didn't sign the paper work! I agree with everone on here, KEEP SHOPPING! Wouldn’t the Ford/Mercury rebates apply here since the car was never titled?
If they have already figured into that price the rebates you are getting ripped a new :censor:

thanks all for your responses. I looked around, and found a new one for $26000 in New Hampshire with 10 miles. So i called them up and gave them my info to see what they could do. I live in CT so its a bit of a drive, but not bad to save this kind of money. I'll keep you posted on what happens, maybe this current dealership will give it for $23k? I could only wish!!!

gonzo50:
I called that dealer (they're in Michigan, by the way). I asked, "How many '04 Marauders do you have for the advertised price of $24,800?" He said, "I have like ten of 'em at that price." I said, "Wow."
He ALSO said . . .
"You need to qualify for A-Plan pricing to get that price [mostly only Ford employees get A-Plan]. You also need to be over 50 to get the AARP $500 cash." He also said that you DON'T have to be a Michigan resident to get that price.
I then asked, "Well how much is it if you only qualify for X-Plan pricing?" He said, "Oh, that'd be like $30,000 . . ." I said, "Oh." So, it's a GREAT price for A-Plan people. Not so great for everyone else.

You don't have to be over 55 for the AARP. You just have to be married to someone that is >55. I am a member by injector (vs. injection).

We were selling brand new 2003's for 27,500. The band new 2004's are 29,500. For an 03 demo that is way too much money. Tell them you'll give them 26,500.

Re AARP; as long as you're over 50, you can belong.
