I knew when i bought this car there was something i didnt like about the steering wheel and yesterday i found out what it was.
On my way to my grandsons christmas program i was about to go around a curve that is listed at 35mph and as i was moving my hands on the wheel my thumb hit the resume button for the speed contro and it started to bring my speed back to 60mph going right into the curve and the right front tire went off the pavement, while trying to correct the car it went sideways in the rode then headed right into the ditch and bounced around befor heading back the other direction.
I am sure glad that i started wearing my seatbelt several years ago as i do believe it kept me from getting hurt very bad, i am sore in my neck as my head did hit the door as i was being bounced around inside the car but i was still able to drive the car back to the house and get in the marauder and make it to my grandsons school program he did a really good job.

I am sorry to see this and glad you made it out OK.

The Mark VIII's are very cool cars and would love to have one parked next to the MM.

Mike.

I had awalys wanted one of theas cars and i finaly got the chance to buy this one in sept of 08, little did i know just how much of a problem the car is, but they are fun to drive even they dont ride as smooth as a person would think a lincoln should.
I will admit that there are several things i dont like about the car but at the same time there are alot of things i do like and wish that were avaliable on the marauder.

I had a 93. It was a fun car. Faster than the MM. I wanted a 4-door and ended up with a MM.

are they rear wheel drive? also how did you manage to dent jut below the window? did you bend the frame?

yes they are rear wheel drive, as for bending the frame i do think that it will need to go get checked out, as the dent in the back i think might be from the back end being slamed down into the ditch, also the hood wont release to open right now. I think if i deciede to keep the car after i get it repaired i will be looking at replacing the steering wheel with one from a town car or contintial as they are more like the marauder.

OUCH! Sorry for your loss of such a beautiful machine...

If you were applying the brakes while entering this curve, how did your speed control activate? Even though you hit the "resume" button, wouldn't braking cancel this function? You state that your speed was going "back to 60mph", so therefore you did slow down (presumably, using the brakes) before approaching the curve, correct?

the curve is an S curve and i had went through the first part of the S with the first part curving to the right, upon comming out of that part i was coasting no brake or acceleration as i was already going slow enough to take the rest of the Scurve where it curves to the left this time and thats when i was changing the position of my hands on the wheel and thats when i hit the resume button.

You hit the brakes and the Resume button action is killed! What happened?

i dont know what to say other than i was never more scared than i was that day looking at the road straight ahead through the pasenger windo then being shot into the ditch and spun around and headed back out onto the road in the opsit direction i was headed in the begening. something i never want to do again.

ahhh just admit it, you were pushing her to the limit and you screwed up. i've done it, i'm sure all of us have. there is no way cruise control would accel your car that fast that you would loose control, you were just trying to have some fun lol, but keep that story for the insurance company. maybe they will give you some pitty and wont up your rate if you claim it.
