I know some members have used leaf blowers after washing. Any thoughts on what type (gas or electric) to purchase?

MMdriver03.
Electric.
I sometimes have mine upside down. Gas powered wouldn't dig that much.
Electrics are lighter.
Electrics are cooler. At least in the parts you'll come in contact with.
I have a Toro 215mph model. Works great.
Get some ear protection. I use the the kind you squish up and stuff in your ears. It helps when I can't hear the neighbs laughing at the funny man blow drying his car.
There's a real high end car detail place in Houston called The Car Masseuse. Took my car by there before I left for Marauderville, and sure enough, before they dried it they blew it off with a leaf blower!

I prefer gasoline because of the mobility. With electric you always have the cord to contend with. I actually use my leaf blower to do just that blow leaves. I guess it is a matter of preference.

Get a gas one, plumb it up to the intake, put a throttle in the cockpit and you got a poor man's VORTECH!!!
And you can dry your car off!

Yeah the neighbor will laugh! So who cares? It is by far away the quickest way to dry something as large as the Marauder!

Thanks for the replies... I do need to get one for drying off my MM , motorcycle and yes those dreaded leaves. I have seen electric ones used at a large harley dealership in the washbays, but I think I prefer a gas one for the leaves.... P.S. sorry I posted in upcoming events , My mistake....:nono:

Now Rich! We wouldn't want the ricers to know what you did to get the MM to whine like that , now would we?
Can't you just see the look on someones face when you open your hood and they see that leaf blower connected to the intake?
That would be priceless!
Officer, can I have another beer? :bows:

Todd wants to know.dyno sheets or 1/4 mile slips...
That's nothing. I've tried cases against Texas lawyers who could blow more hot air than all of your leaf blowers combined!:bs: :argue: :flamer:

Barring rain, I will be using my leafblower after work today.
I will uncoil my orange cord by dragging it into the middle of the street to make sure I have enough free slack. This will get the neighbors pressing their faces against their windows in anticipation. The ones cutting grass will stop, turning off their mowers.
I'll walk back into the garage, put in my squishy ear plugs, and plug the blower in. The neighbs will be chewing their lips eagerly waiting for the show.
I will turn the knob right to the highest setting while bracing myself for the recoil that 215mph air makes from the nozzle.
Then the dance begins. The neighbs go eye-wide slack-jawed. Some giggle. And I move on in a well choreographed flurry of motion.
Then... when I am done and my DTR MM is a specular monument far surpassing the most brilliant of gems, the neighbs fall silent in awe. Some will come over and apologize, shake my hand. Others just gulp hard and fade away, back to their dull anonymous routines.
I unplug my leaf blower, hug it, and put it away for safe keeping until the next weekend.
Then I put my clothes back on, since I am pretty sure the cops will be by shortly to pick me up and I can't stand the orange jail jumpsuit against my body. It chaffs so.
(I was doing good until that last paragraph, huh?)
And I thought I was the only one into nude car washing...

It's the only way to do it without the risk of scratching the paint with all of that rough cloth clothing :D

Put your towels and blowers down, Mr. Clean has a new product that promises that during rinsing, all water will roll off the car and leave no spots anywhere. Is due out on store shelves in Feb. and can be had through the infomercial now.
Saw a test on it yesterday and it worked as promised.

FWIW,
The Leaf Blower idea to dry your car is a good one! I am happy to see that people here have found it. Since I also own a C5 Corvette, this tip has been discussed and used since the second or third year ('98 or '99) of the C5.
The neat part of the leaf blower is that it enables you to get the water out of the outside mirrors (and other assorted nooks and crannies) which seem to trap more water than the MMs do.
Next time I wash the MM, I'll remember to get the leaf blower out and use it. I also use the Waterblade and the Other one that is made out of closed cell foam that I bought at Carlisle last year.
Happy washing and drying!

I've been doing this for years...
All you need is a good coat of wax (or Zaino, or whatever). If it's a good quality product, all you need to do is rinse off the shampoo and then turn down the water to a trickle, and let the water sheet off the car, leaving behind a totally dry surface.
Then it's just a matter of grabbing a chamois or cloth and dabbing up the remaining one or two drops on the car, and it's all done.
Takes a bit of practice to learn how to 'guide' and coax the water off the car, but once you get the hang of it, it's a cinch. The key is to get just the right amount of trickle depending on whether it's a horizontal or vertical surface, and how angled it is. It doesn't work all that well if you use a trigger nozzle... you need to have the hose end open. I vary the quantity of water by using a valve on the end of the hose, then a small 4-5 feet length of hose from the valve.
Summary: with the valve full open, rinse off shampoo. Then close the valve until you get a trickle and start from the highest point of a body panel and guide the water puddle down off the panel. This leaves behind a totally dry surface.

MapleLeafMerc,
The plan for next year is to to June xx, All Ford Nationals and then August xx, Corvettes at Carlisle.
Isn't Spring Carlisle open to all makes/models?
Thought I would have a better chance at finding `things' for the MM at All Ford Nationals. What are your thoughts?

Yes, you're right, GordonB- Spring Carlisle is for all makes- so's fall. It just caught my eye when you mentioned Carlisle because I go down from time to time. If you make it to the All-Fords I'm sure we'd all be interested in hearing if Marauder stuff is there.

MapleLeafMerc, and others
At the August '03 Corvettes at Carlisle, my wife and I managed to pick up Mercury Marauder pins form a Pin Vendor there! Neat.
I hope that we can get a good group of MMers to go to Carlisle for All Ford Weekend, put our cars all together, and find some new goodies for our cars!
Usually they have a Dyno there and by them maybe I'll have some miles on our MM. I'd like to baseline the engine before I do anything.
