So do you really plan to do mods or just ask questions?
First, how much do you want to spend?
That will drive the decisions on mods.

Darrin @ BC Automotive can hook you up, he can install the convertor, and, it won't leak when he's done. Or........ you could just go to Wal Mart.

Converter will be about $800 shipped and labor install should be around $400-500 so you're almost at your budget right there. For my converter and labor was $1106.47.
It's best to start with an tune, add an intake and then gears. Then go on from there.
I've got a PI 3500 stall converter with stock 3.55 gears and you will need a tune to correct some things with the converter. Ideally 3500 stall converter and 4.10 gears is a great combo.

Maybe you should just take a ride in my car bro, I am personally responsible for the sales of two Tilogy kits.

There ya go. That $1500 will probably cover gears OR converter, not both.
If you do gears, it's probably going to cost at least $1200 when you add up the gears, installation kit, labor, and driveshaft upgrade.

What about the tune? And xcal/chip/predator? You haven't blown the trans yet from not upgrading the driveshaft, have you? Just wait.

^^ agreed i went the cheap way,by not upgrading the driveshaft and cracked the tailshaft housing, then i went and bought the Dynotech one and it was all good. now i just cant wait for the silver beauty to come home to swap the parts.

P.I. is total junk. It cost me a transmission and didn't function correctly right before it broke.
Get a 3500 stall, but stay away from P.I. or anything pink for that matter.. at least that's for your car.

Sorry to hear that but I have 70k miles on my single disc PI 3500 stall converter and it's worked flawless after Zack corrected some stuff in the tune for it. Up until a few months ago my car was daily driven 5k miles every 2.5-3 months and I drive the car, I don't like it drive me. Can't wait to get 4.10s and do the J-mod.

I've had a PI converter in my Marauder for over 40k+ miles. Have not had one problem at all! PI is great stuff! Whoever installed yours most likely didn't install it correctly. The PI converters fit very tight on the input shaft and great care and a BFH are sometimes needed to make sure the converter is correctly engaged on the front pump. If not......... bye bye tranny.

I've used several PI converters, never had any issues with converters until I tried one from another supplier. Then everything went to heck.

Unless he's doing 100+ constantly, his stock driveshaft will be fine...
Although he should get a metco driveshaft loop just for safety.

There have been several of them that vibrated the rear seal out of the transmission with 4.10's just running highway speeds. If you catch it before the transmission is burned up from loss of fluid you can fix it fairly easily but it will happen again unless the shaft is upgraded. Sometimes you can check for leaks and find a little bit of seepage before it pushes the seal out of the housing. A few have totally destroyed the transmission because the tailhousing broke. Some stock shafts seem to work ok, most don't. I figure it's like running 15 lb boost on a stock short block, just a matter of time 'til KA-BLOOIE. Since I sometimes take road trips instead of being within the 100 mile free towing limit with AAA plus, I like to play it safe.

Brian, you make a good point. Do you know of any way a stock shaft can be checked (e.g. balance, run-out or whatever) to determine?

There have been a couple of members that got their shaft balanced. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes they vibrate anyway. Some members have searched out the old CVPI MMC driveshafts. If they're not damaged in a crash or by the salvage yard that's the least expensive fix, but sometimes you end up with a non-MMC shaft even if it's advertised as the good one. Since they're no longer available from FoMoCo you can't be sure unless you go aftermarket.
After being burned many times trying to get a deal or wasting a bunch of dollars trying to save a dime, I prefer to go with a something I know is gonna be right the first time.

Theirs been plenty of people that have run stock shafts and 4.10's fine... Some people dont even get the driveline vibration around 120mph
Every car is different...
Can you even get an aftermarket MMX shaft anymore? I know you can get them in carbon fiber still, but I only know one person with a 2002 MGM that runs that.
