i have a friend that has 2003 CV p71 check engine light on and i reads catalitic converter bank 1.
which side is bank 1?
what can be wrong?

Bank 1 is the side with number 1 cylinder so that would be the passenger side.

in the case of o2 sensors it may say bank 1-2 or something like that that would be passenger side rear o2 sensor....

Remember, CATs are a warranted item for eight years or 80,000 miles. If you qualify take it to a dealer for honor. They will prolly send you to a contracted exhaust shop for testing/verification.

Don't go to an exhaust shop first they will sell you CATs and charge you 800.00 dollars. They are not required to tell you about warranties.

Ask me how I know.

I know where he is going with this...the cats themselves don't have sensors so its the downstream o2 sensor saying somethings out of range that smells like a cat but isn't always....what is the code
