Tittle says it all. I had an accident today trying to avoid a BBQ PIT!! on I-55 in St. Louis. I owe it to the car that I walked away with no injuries. What topped it off was the LEO asking if the BBQ pit came of my car... It was a lane wide
I will know Monday if it is totaled.

I swerved to avoid the BBQ pit and my back end broke loose. Lost it and hit a Dakota and then slammed the median. The median hit the rear end and set off the side air bag which saved my head.

It's fixable, but probably would cost $8-10k to repair. They'll probably total it and offer $12-13k.

No chance of finding out where the grill came from?
See if they have camera's on that part of the highway.

God!! I thought we had it bad with deer jumping in the road. BBQ pits that's some nasty stuff. Car looks salvageable, like said above probably going to depend on repair costs. Glad to hear your OK. Did you at least get to keep the BBQ pit?

Dang guy i was just on 55 this morning headed for Dave Sinclair. Didn't get out of there till 4 and decided to go thru the city to avoid traffic that time of day.
Glad you made it out okay, but sorry the car sustained that amount of damage.
IIRC there are no cameras on that stretch of road.

Nope i did not get to keep the pit. As far as i know no one called in to say whose car it fell of off. I will have to check into the camera situation.

Unless you have Nationwide I don't think they will total it.

That has GOT to be a first. MM vs. BBQ. I hope that the BBQ pit was insured. :)
Glad you are OK and hope that your insurance lets you get her fixed back to normal. When you make the call to the insurance company, I bet that it is gonna be an INTERESTING conversation...... "You hit a what??"

OUCH!
That sucks...I'm sorry to see the current condition of your Marauder.
FWIW: I just had mine repaired from a rear end hit....just under $9,000 to repair.
Now I'm talking to the guy's insurance company about diminished value.

Here in St Charles, one of our members runs the body shop at Pundmann Ford. If it is not (or is & you get the salvage) totalled, have Todd look at it & give you the scoop on the fix.
Todd has a black S/C car. He also had a silver car that got totaled. I think it's the silver color that the BBQ didn't like. There are two DTR cars in this area you could buy too.

Years ago Dad was pointing out to me to watch out for those small concrete mixers when towed by a semi tractor. No sooner did we take off and the one in front of us broke loose and went into oncoming traffic. He was an 'Estimated Profit' to me thereafter.

That really sucks. You might have been better off just slamming on the brakes and hitting it!
Anyway, I hope things work out for you.

This is exactly why pickups and other open bed vehicles shouldn't be allowed on high speed roadways. Too many drivers have no idea how to secure a load to their vehicle.

I agree. I think if one buys a pickup, van, or suv of any kind there should be a writen test just like those that have a CDL license. One should need a license before the purchase of any of those trucks. The test should focus on non CDL vehicles and be geared towards pickup trucks, vans and suv's. The test should explain about loads, placement of loads and securing loads. Too many dickheads out there that think they are road worriers and know how to drive a larger vehicle and on top of that a larger vehicle with a load.

So true,
A few years ago some dip$hat was towing a trailer behind his SUV withour the safety chains attached.
As the moron was crossing the Bay Bridge, (read: wayyyy high up above the water and narrow with no place to manuever) the trailer came loose and caused a huge accident.
A father and son were killed as a result...but guess what?
Moron was perfectly safe and unharmed.
He received a few small traffic citations for killing two people....:mad2:
If I were a family member of the deceased, I would have made it a point to kill the idiot and get off on a reduced manslaughter charge.

Boy do I hear you. Why stop at killing the idiot. I would love to go after the pieces of crap that conceived the idiot too for bringing such garbage into the world!!

The axel is fine, it's just the uni-body is bent or the whole body shifted.
Happened to me a few years back.
Glad you are alright. I cannot to be to blame for this, I haven't had meat in 3 weeks... with the exception of the Prime Rib for xmas, but that's not BBQ.
Sorry to hear/see this. Get it fixed and back on the road.

Hmmmm, unibody?:shake: The Panther platform is a body on frame. It is doubtful that the unibody is bent, as there is none.
There is no doubt the body has shifted, but most of the rear axle sticking out is caused by bent control arms.
I hope you are able to get it fixed, but more importantly, you walked away unscathed for the most part.
