View Full Version : Anybody Narrowed a Marauder Rear End?

I need to narrow my Marauder rear end about 1.5 inches on each side. Has anybody had this done? The rear tubes taper to a smaller size as they get closer to the bearing retainer and this could make the narrowing process a little more complicated when welding the bearing retainer back on.

Thanks

Karl

Nobody I know of has narrowed one of them. Possibly the easiest thing to do is get a rear end from an earlier model Crown Vic, as they are a little narrower. Not sure about the brackets for control arms and such, but I'm pretty sure the brakes and axle ends are the same.

TooManyFords has a narrowed rear end on his car, doesn't he? Can't recall if it was OEM or aftremarket.

I think that his is an aftermarket (high dollar) 9" rear.

That would be the way to go, aftermarket 9" Ford rear. Bulletproof!

im pretty sure TMF had a narrowed 8.8 and then switched to his new 9 inch set up. id do what fordnut said and go with a 02 and older cv rear end. should be about the size you need.

should be the same, the rear suspension was the same for 1998+

A properly set up 8.8 is also bullet proof and cost less than a 9 inch.

Thanks guys for all the input. So are we all sure that the 2002 Crown Vics had a slightly narrower rear end? I like that idea. I supposes I could swap all my current Marauder brakes and internals over to the CV rear end.

Why do you want to narrow your rear end?

im 99% sure yes. my tuner just tried to get axles for an 02 hes working on and who ever sent him the axles sent him ones for an 03+ because he said the axles were like like 2 inches too long.

If you do narrow the rearend, you could have 9" ends welded on at the same time.

Safety and NHRA rules.

It eliminates the need for the c-clip and is much more reliable than the commonly used c-clip eliminators. It keeps the wheel from leaving the rear end when an axle breaks.
