View Full Version : Is hangover day worth going to?

Hangover day is when Byron Dragstrip is open on new years day. It all depends on the weather. If it's cold, but not snowing it will be open. I could have the chance to run the car when it's 15 outside. The issue I have been told about is traction.

Now if someone has an eight second car, I know if it's 15 outside they will not hook up off the line or maybe not at all. Me having a 12 second car/ possible 11 second car on race gas might have a shot. I am wondering if this is worth it or not.

The only reason I want to go is to set a record for the car because of it being so cold outside. Will this actually be worth it or is really anything under 40 outside pretty much worth staying away from? Again I understand the "race cars" and how they will struggle more than set records, but as far as cars at our power I don't know what to think.

I'll call the track and see if it's open, but it's hit or miss. If I go it's my whole day. It's a 96 mile drive to the track.

Do you think I'll set a personal record or is this track open just for the sake of racing in the beginning or winter?

I went to Thompson on a just below 40-degree day and couldn't hook for *****, and my car is slower than yours. I think if the car would have hooked, I would have run awesome.

I suspect a large part of the problem that day was the fog earlier in the day leaving the track a little moist. But no matter how much sun came in later in the day and how much glue they laid down, the only cars that hooked up were the 16-second cars......

After putting my car sideways last January at 95MPH on 294 and looking straight at the wall then i'd say if you go, and if you run, you might bring back some memories like mine. Bring extra underwear, i'm not joking.

I say go for it. What else are you going to do. Either Lie in bed clubing your seal or go to the track and have some fun. I would do both but also with a thumb up my butt!!

DO IT!!.................Weather permitting.

I don't do that in bed. You find something you wanna watch, start to download it and post here while you wait.

Besides, by then the girlfriend will be back in town. ;)

It's never posted. Only the cool kids know about it.

That's why you know about it! ;)

Is there a way you can confirm if this is actually happening?

BTW you need to clean out your PM box. I cannot send you anymore!

Yes,
I am going to call my buddy and ask him to confirm this is real.
I find it very hard to believe that racing will occur in the cold weather.

I may come to watch, but I'm not brave enough to run, especially with snow tires:eek:
