James Brown Vs. Ray Charles

I have gotten a gift card from a friend of mine towards a record store and will get another one tomorrow. I have always wanted to get a few LPs from James Brown and Ray Charles. Who should the gift card go towards and what album?

I really wanna find a copy of The Mess Around by Ray, but I love Jame's style too. Who should I get more of? Or what albums should I look into.
