I just had the alarm and remote start installed. First off the Ford Dealer wanted $200 less than the local LM Dealer. so I let the Ford dealer install it.

Next day I discovered that the drivers door switch plate is broken. Somebody pried it up from the back and broke off the tooth (he should have read our instructions for the speaker install). They also left the screw loose on the rear vertical side of the door.

Does anybody know why they would have to get in the door for this install?

They also drilled a hole in the beautiful trim piece under the tc switch for a small led type indicator. Of course they did a lousy job of drilling the hole.

So on Monday I have to go in an read them the riot act. And have them order two trim pieces (door plate and dash).

Burns Ford - Huntington, NY

$595 + tax. Of course they screwed the billing up also. First Bill was parts +labor (4.5 hours @$89/hr). Added an additional $166. They did apologize and correct the billing.

I have put the Ford alarm in 2 MM and 2 CV's. There is no need to go into the drivers's door for any of the wiring. All the connections are in the left kick panel and under dash. The LED in the left center trim panel is just the preferred place for it for years now. I think the instruction sheet even suggests it go in that trim panel. I like it up on the top dash next to the PATS LED myself..

vegasmarauder,

Is it a difficult install? The ones you installed, did they include the autostart? Part numbers? Do share!

I put the non remote start ones in the MM and the remote start in a CV. Basically same wiring, you just have to add on the PATS system interface kit for the MM. Here's the link to the previous post.

If you have any more questions, post them or PM me. It's really pretty simple. Since you will have the left kick panel off that would be the time to add the remote fuel door if you have a B model..

Is it possible that mine came from the factory with an alarm installed?

The other day a garbage truck went by and the horn started honking. I was able to shut it off with the remote.

The window sticker makes no mention of an alarm, only the PATS.

www.crutchfield.com has several alarm modules with harness adapters that require no wire cutting, just unplug the oem wiring and plug the harness in between.

I am really not interested in the alarm but I am interested in the remote start. Can I get one without the other?

Ford has a remote start without the alarm, but I think you end up with two fobs, one to lock/unlock dorrs and another to start the car.

I just had the Ford Remote installed, no alarm. You end up with your original fobs plus two new ones. Put the old fobs away and just use the new ones they do all the same functions, only difference is that for door unlock it unlocks all doors at the same time and you use the same button to unlock the trunk. On the new fob the start button replaces where the trunk button was on the oem fob. The system is great and has I would guess at least a 1000 foot range with fresh batteries in the fobs.

What MMike said, 'cept that my Dealer did the install and literally hacked the wires in the door. I had to go back and clean it up after it kept shorting out. And, yes, the thing has awesome range. There is an add on antenna on my windshield so that really increases the range. It is kind of cool that you can start the car from so far away.. Freaks folks out. Plus you get into a warm/cool if you leave the climate control set. I sure like my toys.....

Excellent!

Is it a kit with the module, fobs, antenna, etc.? Can anyone recall the part number(s)?

Agent:

See Vegasmarauder's link he has written above, it is an excellent and detailed step-by-step to install the alarm with photos in the Gallery. The remote start is an upgrade to the Ford alarm module. Look at Fordparts.com for the best price. I think I paid $109 for the complete unit. Now that I have completed the REAL AM oil pressure switch following VM's great instructions, I can finish up my alarm system.

Yes there is a part number for the alarm and the R/Start. If you go R/Start you will get a antenea to put on the windshield. If you don't mind a small loss in range, you can tuck it up under the front edge of the headlining material in front of one the visors so you don't see it. But it really isn't that visble on the winshield. If you get the R/S and alarm, you will need a PATS interface kit w/it. Part numbers are in my alarm posts. to do the driver's door lock priority (like the factory fob) you will need an extra relay to wire in the lock circuit. Almost all the time you end up unlocking all the doors any way so it's no big deal if you skip this step.

I did a little testing of my own and am curious about the results.

Using the old factory keyless entry fob:

Push unlock once: Headlights & Interior lights come on, and Drivers door unlocks.

Push unlock again: All doors unlock.

Push lock: All doors lock, Headlights off, and Interior dims slowly.

Using the new DEALER INSTALLED FORD remote start/alarm fobs:

Push unlock once: All doors unlock, Interior lights come on.

Push unlock again: Nothing.

Push Lock once: All doors lock, interior lights off ( no dim).

Questions
1. Should the unlocking, and lights actions be the same for the remote/alarm fob as the factory keyless fobs?

2. If I read the post above correctly, the dealer would have to have opened the drivers door to install a relay to get the actions to match. Is that correct?

Thanks for your input and thoughts.

Ok, in order to get the remote start they have to put in an alarm module that will control the door locks seperate from the driver's door module. The add on permineter alarm is the same basic alarm module, but it only reads the factory door lock/unlock voltage from the driver's door module to turn the alarm on./off. What you have is in essence a full alarm system similar to what would go on a car with no remote entry at all. that is exactly the system we put on the nephews 98 CVPI because he wanted the remote start. In order to get the "driver's door unlock priority" as it's called, they have to have an extra relay in the driver's door lock circuit. This is usually an extra charge, because it's more wiring. Then the alram module has to be programmed to turn that feature on. It's a simple process contained in the install instructions. As for the interior dim feature, that is controlled by the lighting control module. The alarm module bypasses that for interior lighting when the alarm is activated/deactivated. It's the only way to get the remote start feature. I have the full install instructions if you want I can copy the relavent pages and mail them to you. I don't have access to a scanner to E-mail..

Thanks for the update. Between what you have just told me and a closer reading of the documentation, I understand what is going on. I think.

I need to find out if the drivers door relay was installed, but somehow it is inoperative. They did break the window switch plate, so it looks like they started to open the door. The other problem is that the quickstop feature does not work.

That is nice in the winter (in NY) to leave the car running.

Thanks again.

I had the remote installed and had them "turn off" the alarm part. Panic button will work.
I do not get those annoying "chirps or beeps" when locking, unlocking, starting:):):)
