I like the looks of these:

http://www.gibsonexhaust.com/images/cftmuffler2.jpg

They are similar to a turbo design, are not straight through and should be quiet until I get on it. I do not like the raspy, burping, crackleing, spitting sound or a straight through muffler with no cats.

Idea was to get a Dual In / Dual out and use it like and X pipe then get (2) of the center/offset to use as mufflers.

Want to make bolt up flages for stock cats so when I get the SW headers they will bolt right up just like factory.

Well what do you guys think?

I remember wanting to get one for my Suburban. I dont know if anyone has done one here, do they have sound clips on a Mustang that will give you an idea.

Personally Babbage I'd go for the tried and true Magnaflow off road X Pipe and Magnaflow 14" or 18" but that's just me. My current setup isnt bad at all with universal Magnaflow X w/ 40s 2 chamber flows. I really like the sound with the X pipe at high rpms. I never liked the flows with the H pipe.

I say if you like the sound clip and feel adventurous go for it.

My setup is similar to what you're describing, it uses stock flange locations with a Bassani X-pipe. I like the option of being able to upgrade a section at a time instead of all at once, I also like having the ability to switch back to stock easily.

Somebody on here has done the dual-in dual-out setup instead of x-pipe and they're happy with it so if you check around you should be able to find some installation tips and maybe sound clips.

The internal baffles of the mufflers you showed are similar to glasspack without the packing. My Edelbrock mufflers have similar internal pipes but also have ceramic based packing for (supposedly) longer life than the fiberglass found in glasspacks.

If you go with stock flange locations you'll have to get your cats custom made when you install headers. The pre-made cat pipes from both SW and Kooks replace the cats and x-pipe as one piece which connects to the muffler inlet pipes behind the normal flange location.

If you use SW headers instead of Kooks then you have to use super-short cats to fit between the collectors and crossmember so your choices on cats will be limited.

The plan was to get the SW Headers and Cats (MAUCAT) later on - since that system bolts right up to factory exhaust, why wouldn't it work if I replace the factory H pipe with an X pipe with bolt flanges whoose length and bolt position was at the same place??

What am I missing?

Stock MM looks like this:

<factory headers>--bolts--<down pipe+cats>--bolts--<factory h-pipe>--weleded pipe --> mufflers.

Thanks.

After getting your message, I looked at the SW website and the MAUCAT system may very well connect to the OEM flanges like you're looking for. I had never seen a header setup before that connected to the factory exhaust flanges.

Looks like you've got a good plan, go for it!

03mmmonroe has a nice set-up using a dual inlet/outlet muffler as the x-pipe. Tried to find his post with pics, but couldn't locate it. Send him a PM for more info if interested.

Yeah, more tweaking, Tom, just what you need! Hey, here's an idea: sell me all your current go-fast stuff (cheap) and go with a new installation of some sort. ;)

Yeah, it would be fun to do all over again, with what we know now vs 7 years ago........on a second MM....and , uh think I'll keep current MM as is for now.......

Cool thanks. This is what I did before on my old car. I used a muffled X-Pipe. Still an X pipe and is straight through but helps keep things quiet. Problem was the shop cut the bolt flanges and some length off my cat pipes.

This is what the X-Pipe muffler from magnaflow looks like on inside.
