 My 04 Marauder is having a problem I think I've seen other members have but cannot recall the diagnosis to pinpoint the problem and what's causing it. Most of all what's the fix? My wipers do not work on Intermittent. Only work on highest speed. Every now and then however the intermittent wiper speeds are working again but about 90 % of the time they are not. I think I read way back somewhere on our web site this is a windshield wiper motor problem caused by dampness and the fix is a new motor but with a harness that fits over it somehow to prevent moisture from getting into it. Can someone please point me to any diagnostic instructions on the web site? Thanks a bunch. By the way if its the motor and harness what does something like this usually cost and should you get OEM parts necessarily or are aftermarket okay?

Common problem.

Read this thread, either clean the solenoid as Richy describes, or you can replace the wiper motor/solenoid assemby. Cost on replacement somewhere between $100 -$130 with trade-in on the core.

Again .........................
Exact same symptoms that I had. The drain clogs up and shorts out the wiper control module that it at the base of the motor.
Richie04 posted a solution here >>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47864&highlight=wacky+wipers
If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to replace the wiper motor and the wiring pigtail per the TSB "Uncommanded Wiper Operation" that has been out for at least 4-5 years. Don't forget to enlarge the drain hole while you have it open.
Wiper motor and pigtail/wiring was replaced under TSB 05-04-09. Parts listed:
6W7Z-17508-AC Motor A 137493
3W7Z-17A477-AA Wiring 812722

Isn't this also a possible wiper control arm problem? I could be mistaken. :D

Be ready to replace that motor. Very simple though.

All I did was clean out the cowl, and shake all the water out of the motor, dry everything and put it back in and it worked fine.
