I finally got some touch up paint for the bumper guards today. I got it from the Mercury dealer that I got the car from, so it's from Ford, not Autozone or anything. When I used this stuff before it would stay until I would get the car washed and it would fall off. I need to know what I should do to prep the car before painting the scratches/chips besides simply washing the car. This is just the bumper guard. Also is it alright to even put this touch up paint on when it's below 20 in my garage?
Any thoughts to tips would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
BTW does touch up need more than one "coat" over the scratches?

Not in the cold. I go over my whole car twice a year and fill tiny scratchs untill they are filled completely, wet sand the spot carefully and machine buff. It is a constant battle to keep it mint.

It's like $200 for each bumper guard. This is just for the time being. Also there is almost no point. Soon as it's painted someone taps it a week later. It's happened like three times. That's what you get for living in this city. :o

Do you have a photo of these bumper guards? I am curious as to what they look like...

Dom, I'm not a paint expert, but I do know 20° is WAY too cold. I think something like 50° is the minimum.

Dom, look at this site. It not only has directions for various kinds of touch up, but tips as well. There's more to it than slapping on the paint.

They are the plastic pieces that go over the actual bumpers. You know the plastic that holds the fog lights on the front and spells Marauder on the rear. These are called bumper guards and sometimes bumper covers. The bumper itself is behind the plastic. Everyone Marauder has em... well every complete Marauder.
Thanks Donny that was very helpful.

Bumper COVERS. Bumper guards usually refer to the two vertical mini-bumpers on either side of the license plate. You see en on alot of cabs.
