These glass tops were never made for hard street or track launches. You would be surprised how much a body twists when under going a hard launch from a 400+ HP engine on DRs. Fortunately it comes back to its former position after the torque is gone. But, as Ed said the top will pop or break with a hard launch.

Unibody construction?
More Flex on the unibody than the Marauder. The full frame on the panther makes the car more ridgid than unibody cars.

I'm not sure how much a body-on-frame car would flex compared to a unibody...
but I do know what happens to a unibody with a sunroof, sticky tires and a hard launch.
I 'wrinkled' the sheetmetal around the perimeter of the sunroof on my '85 GT Mustang.
First run at the track with sticky cheater slicks, and a good hard launch!
When I was waiting for my next round in the pit lanes I noticed the sheetmetal around the sunroof was now 'wrinkled'!......:mad2:
My next mod was subframe connectors.
I'm not sure how much a body-on-frame car would flex compared to a unibody...

Joe I spent many years in the body shop world and can tell you the unibody has way more flex. Add T Tops and it has even more. A full frame car also suffers with the T Top. You learned on your Mustang!:D

LOL....Yep....T-Tops are much worse than a sunroof.
I learned the painful way!
My buddy had a T-Top Pontiac Trans Am and one day while riding with him, he told me to put my finger in the T-Tops weatherstripping.
(T-Tops were in place and locked)
Then he swerved hard and my finger got pinched so friggin' bad as the unibody flexed!!!....:argue:
I couldn't believe how much that car flexed with just a quick lane change.

Thats why I thought a full frame car would be better suited for one of those roofs as oppossed to a unibody? Either way bodies flex and most don't realise how much. Take a good look at Marty's launch and tell me that thing doesn't look like its twisting like a pretzel! BTW Marty, as with others i'm sure, I proudly use that as wallpaper!

I think it looks pretty neat and I am sure it functions great, but I would be concerned about reliability and safety since it was not a Ford reserched and developed option.

T-tops are certainly worse than a sunroof but better than a ragtop. I miss my Firebird sometimes. Never had a leak problem or anything.

Here. Here. I had the same car. A 1989 T-Top 5speed red Formula. I miss it too. 136,000+ miles, never leaked from the T-Tops or any other fluids.

The Mustang is a fixed glass roof.
This one looks very simular to the ones we put in the Edge/MKX Flex/MKT during assembly production at the plant. I've only heard of one breaking and that was when lightning struck the front roof aerial and came out the back hatch.

Why were there so few sunroof equipped Marauders produced (like 500 something in 04 only). It seems like American companies are stingy with this option unlike the Germans and the Japanese when a sunroof is equipped on just about everything. Surprisingly my 96 Impala has one and it looks factory even though I've never seen a factory sunroof on one. I'm planning on getting a factory-like sunroof installed on my MM including the original overhead console when I get back to the States, heck It's loaded with everything else.

+1 Factory list was around $1,900 IIRC.

2 grand for a sunroof, WOW. I have had several cars w/ sunroofs and I never use them because all they do is make a ton of wind noise.

The roof liner surrounding the sunroof takes away too much head clearance for me. I don't like driving while my hair is constantly brushing the liner, so no hole in my roof. :cool:

You lose about an inch of headroom with the moonroof installed.

Yeah, I just lowered the driver's seat in my DTR to compensate. I really liked the option and miss it on my Blue.

There was NEVER a "sunroof" option for the 2003 - 2004 Marauder. Only a moonroof. If you don't know the difference here is an explanation.
"sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. A "moonroof," on the other hand, is a glass panel that can allow light in even when it is closed (provided, of course, you slide back that nifty fabric-covered panel to expose the glass).
True sunroofs, those made just of metal, appear to have gone the way of 8-tracks in automobiles, and these days, most "sunroofs" are really "moonroofs" -- panels of tempered glass, usually tinted, that tilt up to allow a flow of air, or slide back into the roof entirely, giving the car occupants a brief but tantalizing glimpse of life in a convertible.

All my cars will have a moonroof. Even the wife's 2007 Charger R/T has one.

Lucky for me I'm only 5' 6 &3/4" tall so let the cutting begin!!! of the "MOONROOF", (thanks for the explanation ^^^^^^) yall know what I meant:lol:

I had a very rare 1978 Thunderbird with a factory T-Top in it. That was my race car. I can vouch for the twist I experienced in that after several years of racing. Not a single body panel lined up when I was done
The tops never leaked air or water in when closed up, I did put longer studs in the lever to keep it locked down tight.
Remember now, that T-Bird was a full framed car.
Pretty cool car, but always hated the black cardboard glove box liner. !!!! Really ????
