Yes I searched! Now that I said that, someone will find the exact original post that has my answer ... go ahead I double dog dare you to find that post for me ... Go ahead ...
:D
Now on to the question. A P71 driveshaft. The nice balanced one we want, must it be from a 1999 only and must it have both the green and pink band on it.
Why? I found a driveshaft from a 1998 P71 that has a green band only on it. It does not have the pink band on it. Cheap enough that I want it, in preparation for possible 4.10 install.
Thanks and remember, find me that original post from 3 years ago that I could not find in my search ... ;)

And no dampener ring on the yoke.

You don't really need a new driveshaft for your 4.10's. You'll only need it if you plan on spending an extended amount of time cruising at 90 to 100+ mph.... Now where are you going to do that?
I've had 4.10's installed for over 51K and I've had no problems with occasional burst to 100 - 110mph.

It really depends on the car. Some of them can get by with the stock shaft indefinitely. Lots of them blow the rear seal out of the trans first time you run it 80-90. A few of them destroy the transmission. You're one of the lucky few.

Must be. I do notice an increased vibration between 98 & 110.

I was one of the lucky as well, I had my stock shaft on until about this past October and at the end of a 1/4 mile pass I'd hit the end of 3rd before letting out- so 120+ quite often and I never had a prob. I changed to the CVPI shaft mainly out of paranoia

Mine pushed the rear seal out of the transmission, never saw 100.
I hate cleaning up the underside of the car after transmission fluid sprays all over it. I've done it 5-6 times.

Cool information. I will need to back to that drive shaft and
ake sure of the band color.
As for where I would spend time over a 100 ... Well there is only one place for that kind of behavior, The track. I am no road racer (anymore) and try to stay around posted speed limits.
That post link is pretty cool information.
Thanks!

I had to do some really dumb highway race against a car to get my old stocker to push out the rear tranny seal, also cracked the rear tailshaft and tailshaft housing, Mercury warranty a few years ago, also helped being a ford tech at the time... the new one in it seems pretty well balanced .

I've been reading all of the driveshaft threads but still kinda confused.
I know the driveshaft has to be replace, what other parts would be recommended to be replaced along the line?

Look for a 99 p71 the diff tag will say 3L55 because all 99 police came with those.
Other model years got the mmc shaft only if they got the 355s. check the diff tag for 355's

Marauder is the only car that got the fancy balance ring driveshaft so I don't know what you all are talking about there...

Hardened output shaft in transmission. BC auto or Reinhart has them

i still find it hard to believe that our factory driveshaft could cause the tailshaft to crack. you would think because of what kind of car the marauder is Ford would make a driveshaft that can handle the govenderd speed of 120mph why cant you just take the stock driveshaft in for a high speed balance??

Nope. Factory shaft should be fine at 120 with factory 3:55 gears - It's when you put in 4.10 gears that 120MPH on becomes a problem.
Factory shaft is aluminum.
MMC = Metal Matrix Composite. Composite (mixture) MMC is a special blend of aluminum and steel that Alcoa came up with which handled vibration and resonance much better than aluminum purely on a material level.
A perfectly balanced 6061 aluminum shaft will still vibrate/resonate.

There may be more items but I know that one is a biggie. You have a girdle on your rear end too already right? If not that's a good idea too.

sounds like a good way to rust proof the underside especially if you lived up north

in a wrekers near by here they have 3 or 4 03+ PI's that I could grab the driveshaft's out of for 10 bucks each. is that a good price? would they be the right ones?

I didn't fool around & bought a Metal matrix drive shaft from DR. My Marauder has seen 140+ Mph. for a short run... at that speed short is pretty long ie. 40 seconds!!! No vibration or tailshaft trouble. You have to remember any stock D/S is only good for a buck 25

today I went on a little 450k road trip car was set at 120mph on the cruise the whole way.....allmost.. "I love driving in Northern alberta no traffic" car handled great, no shaking or vibrations, did not like the amount of fuel I used tho, got aboout 250Km's to a tank. but you know what's strange, my torque converter stutter is completely gone, and so is the slightly ruff idle. hmmm... still going to change the fluid and filter on monday along with the engine oil. but hey If the stock driveshaft can handle 120mph for about 3 hours i'm sure it can handle 140mph for a bit too.

That's like saying you can handle fever (temperature) of 104F for 8 hours so you could do 108F for 20mins. (it won't be pretty)
