How to remove middle gauges

I need to take the middle gauges out of my car to take the cigarette lighter out but I'm not exactly sure how they come out so I think I'd rather ask if anyone knows how before I try it and break something.

1. apply e brake
2. put in 1st
3. pull from the sides and evenly, it should pop out. its just held in with clips

just make sure it's nice and warm in the car. cold+ plastic = SNAP

3. pull DOWN from the sides and evenly, it should pop out. its just held in with clipsI added a crucial word to the above...once the side "wings" are detached from the clips, you need to kinda rotate the gauge pod and mess with it a bit to clear the front of the console, but it WILL come out.
