Hi everyone,
I haven't had any real problems with my Marauder as of yet and it has 86,000 miles on the clock. However, the last few weeks when I park at my destination and get out, I notice a burning smell. First I thought it was just one of those days when you smell smoke outside but its everytime I get outside of my car now. Its definately coming from my car. I popped the hood and gave it a big sniff and look around. I didn't see anything wrong and the smell begins to dissappate and is hard to track down. Something electrical maybe? My 90,000 mile service is a number of miles away so wondering what the problem might be. I'm used to smelling things like this on my old Crown Vic but not the Marauder. I rely on the Marauder for my daily transportation so I want it to remain reliable. Any ideas?

maybe you have some leaves etc jammed up on your exhaust somewhere or something  Cuz electrical fire smoke smells a lot different than smoke you would normally smell outside from people burning leaves/using fire places

Suki has a point. What kind of a burning smell is it?

Assuming its not the burning smell that comes from Mr Man's shorts, it sounds like you might be burning a little oil (valve stem seals??) if it dissipates quickly and isn't coming from under the hood.

It's true I have mastered the burning smell unlike you who tries very hard but regularly ends up with a load.:P

Catalytic converters sometimes have an air about them

My Jeep Grand Cherokee did the same thing for awhile(110,000 miles), but eventually stopped. I never did see anything. Im guessing some kind of residue or leaves somewhere where I could not see.

Wasn't there an issue with an insulation piece coming unglued from the outside firewall/floorpan and dropping onto the exhaust near the cat?

You manage to run over a plastic bag? That smell lasts for a long time.

Is there any oil leaks?

Burning converter insulation smells just like wires. The F.D. will back me up on this:o

Check your belt, if it is old or loose, it may free spin enough to "burn" a little. My A/C clutch locked up on one of my vehicles years ago, and the belt spun around it and produced one helluva smoke show and stank up the car for days.

I go along with the "plastic bag" theory. I ran over one and it melted itself to the exhaust pipe. It smewlled bad. I had to scrape it off with file when it was cold enough to touch.

ebrake pads commonly separate from the shoe and drag against the drum ultimately falling off and lodging under the bottom of the ebrake pad adjuster where they wear down to dust.
