Noticed 2003 crown vics in local Pick N Pull. the three were from Taxi service and did not look in bad shape. So I looked at odometers and the mileage was 318,000; 295,000; and 307,000 miles. They had the police interceptor badging on them so the taxi company must have purchased them at a Police auction.
Looks like our Marauders may last a few more miles.

the bodys will, the 32v's dont last as long as the 16v's....

and even when the motor and the trans is shot, you just rip it out and drop another one in.... like alot of taxi companies do....

HA!

Those cars in the junkyard could have probably been driven more. I don't know about CA, but here in Chicago cabs cannot exceed six years of age. They might have a limit for mileage too. I just don't think anyone would want to buy a six year old car with 300,000 miles on it. The only way to milk more money outta the car is to sell it to a junkyard and they make their money off of it parting it out.

I bet our cars or Panthers for that matter can easily exceed 300,000 miles and six years. Heck, mine is seven and a half years old at 152,000 miles and still going strong.

To be honest, most of the cars Ive owned in the past had plenty of life in them when I sold/traded/whatever. I just got sick of driving them or wanted something new. Yesterday I went and aired up the tires (all were about 10 lbs low) and then went cruising around town on a clear, cold day. Its my fun car, not my daily driver (and will soon hit 16k miles), and I was noticing in the reflections of storefront windows just how damn nice it looked, all shiny silver with blacked out windows and raked just right. At most redlights, I love how the reflection of our great looking wheels shine on the cars next to me. The light changes green and you kinda squirt out ahead of the other cars. Plenty of power, nice soft leather seats, decent stereo and room enough for a "man of size" like myself. I think Ill be hanging on to it a few more years.

I thought the PI's and the taxi's are basically the same fleet package.
The notion that American made cars are only good for 100,000 miles is no longer true (at least for Fords:P), and hasn't been for awhile now, but it still persists.

Am looking forward to a lot of fun days driving the Marauder unless I just get tired of it as has happened in the past with other cars. Maybe this one will be different.

In my younger days I too was fickle and the longest I ever kept a car was two years. Going on 5 years with the MM and I will keep it until either I or it dies. I may get something else, but she will still be in the stable ready to be saddled and ridden hard (the way she was meant to).

Doesn't surprise me. I have 126,000 miles on my '04 Marauder. I had an 89 Grand Marquis with 234,000 after 11 years without a major repair although at the end the air conditioner started leaking. I will tell you the key to longivity of any car's mechanics. My uncle was a cab driver. Had an old checker cab. Drove it a thousand miles a week in stop and go city traffic. Never had any major problems or down time. He changed the oil every week. My mechanic's father started the business before him and said changing the car's fluids regularly is everything. I've always stuck to that idea of frequently changing fluids and have yet to have a major costly repair on any Mercury I've ever owned. And oh yes, I have driven only Mercurys since 1977. A 77 Marquis, 80 Marquis, 89 and 00 Grand Marquis and they were all very solid cars. My Marauder is humming along. I do about 75 % to 80 % highway driving which doesn't hurt either. Man do I love puttin' it on cruise control on the turnpike or interstate. Five years old and I'm still getting compliments on it. Want to run it till I'm 90 cause the design is a classic and how many cars that in production only two years generated its own member website like ours ? Ride On !

Good info --- my SB 04 MM is my daily driver but I live < 3 miles from work. On the weekends I try not to put excessive miles on it because I want to enjoy it the rest of my life. It now has 24K miles....but after reading your posts, I'm going to ...... uh....drive it.:burnout:
Thanks

I read somewhere that FORD engineers their vehicles to go 300K miles or more!

I believe it since my Marauder has 209,7xx miles on it and the blower has been on it for 126K miles.......rebuilt the trans at 160K and the rear end at 177K (replaced the OEM brakes too)......engine has not been touched except oil changes, belts, plugs and normal maintenance stuff!!:bows:

When the motor dies I will build or replace it and keep going!!:D:burnout:

My first Panther when I was 18 was a 95 P-71 that I bought for $1,300 bucks, one of the best cars I've ever owned. Drove it to NYC in 3:45 min from DC @ 125 through the middle of the night with the A/C on full blast and the Radar detector on. NO Problems even with 329,xxx miles. Sold it to my friend and he f____ed it up. I'm looking for a 06' P-71, really gotta have the Digital Gauge and Tach!! Build Ford Tough.

One of the cruisers I drive regularly has over 5,700 hours of idle time on it and just over 110,000 miles. It is an urban car and gets used hard. Still runs like a top. Clock for run time works only when car is idling in park so this time does not include the hours spent driving around. Motor is original, trans never been touched. It has had some front end work but nothing else other than brakes and routine maintenance. They use dino oil. These cars do last.
