Well I bought a puller this weekend from Advance for my harmonic balancer and it does not fit. I can only get 2 of the 3 bolts in:mad2:. It is the old school style that looks the same as a steering wheel puller.

Anyone have a specific set that they recommend? If possible would like to get the puller/installer combo setup. I was just going to buy the Moroso installation tool if the one above worked but if I need the complete setup I would rather get a complete kit that does both and comes in a case.

Thanks.

I borrowed one from Autozone (they refund your deposit when you return the tool). Had to use a shorter center screw (from a steering wheel puller) because of the radiator. It had three adjustable placement holes to screw into the balancer. Had no probs.

Do remember the name brand of the one it was that you rented? A couple of the ones listed on the page are similar to the one I bought from Advance that didn't work.

If it was the OTC 4531 I can pick this up from Summit for $65.95 and will probably just do that. I will need it again in the not so far future and it is a tool I would like to have in the garage for when I need it. Thanks.

I used one of the others without a problem, but, that 4531 kit looks like it would cover every scenario. When you said on of the bolts wouldn't go in. Did it actually not line up? I know the kits have different bolt lengths with different thread sizes. Hmmmm...

The bolt pattern on the puller is not big enough. The one I borrowed and kept from auto zone just barley fit. Brand was OEM, # 27019 comes in a nice plastic case too. Oh yeah and it was only like 15 bucks if I remember correctly, cheaper than the one they had hanging up for sale.

It came with a variety of bolts w/three that matched up no problem. I couldn't get the puller itself to come in line w/all 3 holes on the balancer at once. It was just about a 1/4" away from where I could get all 3 in at once.

You know, now that you mention it, I got a big kit from my buddy at an auto shop and everything went on perfect except the center screw was too long. I then went to autozone and borrowed their puller to use the much shorter center screw that worked great. So I used a hodge podge of sets.

No worry about the radiator since the engine is on a stand at the moment. I should have plenty of clearance for the longer bolt.

Made it work, a little coaxing and massaging with the Dremel and it worked fine. Still seemed solid when I pulled the balancer. Was around $20 so was a big waste if I screwed it up. Only had to remove about a 1/32"-1/16" from the end of each groove so I am sure it will hold up fine. I'll buy a nice puller set when I have the funds if I have to.
