View Full Version : What is the best quality tire?

Rather than be cheap this year I might spend the extra couple of bucks and buy something that will last longer than a year.
I think with the driving style and the blower I might not be able to benefit, but I would still like your opinions and reviews.
I seem to go through a rear set every year. So far I have only played with our factory BFG's and Dunlops that I bought used. I loved the look of the Dunlops, they were less expensive and seemed to have lasted longer.
What tires are you guys running that have lasted you and how many miles?
Thanks.

I'm running OEM BFGs on the front and General Grabber UHP 255/55/18s on the rear.
The Generals have a softer sidewall and aren't as sticky as the BFGs, but are holding up well. I have about 10K on them with no significant wear noted.

Well, since you asked and didn't mentioned money as the bigger problem...I recommend the Nttos cause I have and several others as well, have used them for several years and miles...in my case about 28K. Have put down many double reminder marks of where I've been and still look great. Actually, the right rear now has two(2) plugs and still is fine. Now that's saying sumpt'n.
They are still in good shape and it really amazes me. They have also been great in the rain. I don't get on them as much as I used too, but if you have never tried them for your S/C car on a daily basis--then you should.
I'm running the 255/18 up front and 295/18 out back.

Do you have a picture of that? I know Adam/Cleveland's looked huge, but man! 295/18 must really be up there. There have never been issues with the tires rubbing?

I'm running Hankook Ventus 295/55/18's. They wear like iron and handle extremely well.

Guys what did your tires cost you? Where did you get them? Jim, how many miles are on yours and how are they in the rain?
The rain is my biggest issue.

Dom,
I run Nitto 555's and I love them, they do wear out pretty quickly but the traction is wonderful as long as you NEVER have them in snow. I know you like to do some spirited driving so they might wear out too quickly for you but if your gentle with your right foot for the most part you shouldn’t have any issues.
The price I paid wouldn’t be very accurate because it is for my 20" wheels, so you will have to check up on the price yourself if interested.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
$1000.00 mounted and balanced

About 5K miles
Best rain tire I have ever driven, I drive through large puddles with ZERO wheel shake and feedback. The tire cuts through watter and tosses whole puddles out the sides like no tire I have expierenced.

Right now I just need rear tires. The front ones are in perfect shape.

Yeah, they do look larger and maybe a bit intimidating to others--cool-- now as to rubbing--Several of us with this set up have and several do not have this issue. The rubbing is against the inside of the stock shocks. In my case, they do rub . Some MM's they will not--believe me when I say --when they came off the assembly line they were not "exactly" the same--so some just do and some don't. In either case--if you have that problem the fix is a different size shock like the QA-1's for example. I'm still running the stocks and the QA's are next up for me. You can change the off set with spacers but I highly don't recommend this.
The rubbing is not a factor as lone as:
1. You keep your tire pressure up....and
2. you only "get on it" when going straight.
otherwise you car will hit the shocks and make you feel like the car is coming off the axles and also makes you fish tail ...a no-no-. It also can cause the ABS sensor to get loose or disconnected when this happens alot--and I know this because..
Check out fast's note below--his "55" set up allows for a no rub condition....but I prefer the 45---its just a preference thing...Just the same--remember --no matter how exact our cars look and are made --they are off a bit for each....

Got mine from www.eastcoasttires.com
Got 20+k on them.
No problems in the rain.

I'll be moving the backs to the front and installing the widened wheels soon.

The 295/45/18s are on there, but no 295/55/18s. I'd be happy with the 45s. Thanks for the info.
Anyone else?

Not a big fan of the Nittos myself. I though the OEM BFGs were better as far as off the line traction, and cold weather handling. If money is no obnject, go with the Goodyears.

Trust me --a whole new grip will be felt ---it sure makes a difference when you have more print on the ground...you'll see (and feel it).....
Try and remember to tell us if you "feel " any difference after you do this--am curious and probably some others as well..
