OK, I did searches for "fan switch", "fan mod", and "fan override" and wasn't coming up with much of anything, so I figured I'd throw it out here and see what folks thought.
One of the Charger owners I talked to at the strip this past year had a mod on his car whereby he could control his engine fans with his headlight switch. I don't remember the specifics, but he would cycle the lights on/off several times and then hit his keyless entry button, and the fans would go on high, or low, or off depending on what he did.
I thought, "hey this is pretty damn cool!"
Has anyone come up with a similar mod for our cars? I.E. a way of overriding the fan relays in such a way that we could use existing electronics to turn our fans on and cool the car down faster?
I'm sure it would be easy enough to wire in an auxiliary switch somewhere to just plain turn the fans on. But it would be a lot cooler (pun intended, I guess) to be able to do it a la the Mopar Mod.
Now that I read this, it sounds like Dom wrote it :lol:

My wife has a 2007 Charger R/T with the R/T package and hers can't do that.....
Don't think think the manufacturer would want you to over ride the cooling fans.....

A flash tuner can adjust them.

In the case of the Mopar, it involved jumping a wire from one relay to another, replacing another relay, then running a hot wire up to the headlight switch. (or something like that)
Definitely not a factory option but it would be cool to be able to turn the fans on while in the staging lanes at the strip.

The MM engine cooling fan has an electronic speed controller that needs modulated signal from the EEC to run the fan. You would have to wire a relay with DPDT contacts to bypass and isolate the speed controller to get the fan running and it would just be full speed.
The factory temperature setting is 210 degrees just to get the fan started on low speed. The other easy way to get the fan running at lower temps is from a tune. I have mine set at 188 degrees through SCT ProRacer pkg.
You could also force the fan to come on at anytime by turning on AC.

Would the old fan relay jumper work on these cars i wonder....we doit with Mustangs/cobras all the time.....hmm Just may have to look into this.

You could just adjust the fan startup temperature in the tune so that it comes on at 100 degrees or so. If you have a chip you could load it as a second tune, just flip the switch, turn on the key, and the fan comes on at the new temp.

The MM fan control and the Mustang are not the same. The MM does not use relay but rather an electronic variable speed controller. Kind of like the FPDM.
Mustang fan control use 2 relays, hi and low.

If your car is running 14.5s, LEAVE IT ALONE. Most people that I have seen with fan switches don't need them but think they do.

If your car is running 14.5s, LEAVE IT ALONE. I've noticed, though, that the car definitely runs better when it's cooler. So on hot days, it'd be nice to try to bring the temp down with a fan override.
I mean, it's not a huge deal, I guess I'm just thinking out loud and seeing what people think, or what they've done.

Your engine is not running any cooler on cold days. The air intake charge is cooler.

I figured the reason the car went slower while hot lapping it was that the engine was running a bit warmer than it was on the first couple runs....

Maybe. If you want to modify the controls you will probably have to splice in a relay after the control box to the two wires that go from the control box to the fan motor. Cooler water in the radiator won't cool the motor though, so you need to add an electric water pump, too. And then be careful not to run the battery down while waiting in the staging lanes.
