I called on one of those warranties, and the price of it was equivalent to the transmission and engine both blowing up. Of course, my car has twice the mileage, so...maybe yours would be cheaper.

Do they cover highly modded S/C cars?

Go ONLY with the Ford extended warranty. Stay away from those aftermarket
things like a steer from a branding iron. I've worked in dealerships for over
40 years (never ford) and I can tell you most of those things are not cost
effective. I know of several that took a lot of peoples money and then went
out of business. I've sen others that will only use used parts and others that
when it got down to business had clauses that exempted most legitimate repairs.

I hate it when good folks get screwed around.

Rumble is right - only use Ford warranties or you will pay!

I had 42k on mine when I purchased the Ford ESP Warranty, which cost me about $1800. for an additional 4-years/48k miles. Call Tipton Ford-Mercury at 888-675-8778 and ask for Ed Smith, he gives MM.net members really good deals.

Rusty Wallace doesn't sell the Ford ESP warranties.

Like it's been stated before....

Stay away from anything but a Ford ESP warranty.

I bought an extended warranty from a company called "Carchex" while I dont recommend them or any other warranty company that is not factory, I have had a pretty good relationship with them.

I paid $1600 for a 7 year 100000 mile warranty with a $50 deductible(That was when they were first getting started and they were CHEAP) that is bumper to bumper(they have replaced my transmission already under warranty). Factory warranties are great because they are in cohoots with your service provider and will work a bit harder to fix things because they are under federal mandates that make TSB and recalls fixable. They also pay the dealers faster so the mechanics and service writers would rather work with them because they know what they can and cant do automatically instead of the super-long "Inspection Process" that happens with any major repair (my transmission took nearly 5 weeks to get concluded!)

My 2cents and I might be wrongon some details....dealers and mechanics get in here!

BTW Do a RIPOFF REPORT .com check on that Rusty Wallace company! They are BAD NEWS! Terrible customer service and crazy crap happening with them!

Years ago I had good experience with a couple of third party warranty companies. The drawback I found third party vs ESP is that there was time lag from a couple hours waiting for a phone call back for minor repairs to a couple days waiting for a human to show up to inspect and authorize major repairs. With Ford ESPs there is zero delay time and my repairs are done at a Ford dealer. That's why I stick with ESPs.

Also keep in mind, if you are under an ESP and sell your car - if the new owner does not need or wish the transfer of the ESP to him, you can get part of your money back.

I have one from a company called "Advantage". They paid for my rear axles and bearings to be replaced no problem whatsoever, even though it was a Ford defect on early 300 A's.

Correct, a pro-rated amount within the first 60-days... I canceled at 42-days into my contract and received approximately $1690. of my $1800. investment. Still, an amazing deal! :banana2:

ESP above a certain amount will require a human inspector. Something to keep in mind. The one time I had ESP and had to have an inspector come look at it, it held my car up in the shop for several extra days, and they ended up denying the repair and I had to pay to have the car put back together, from the point they had torn it down to have it inspected (rear end noise complaint). I cancelled the warranty and said, screw this I'll buy the tools and repair it myself. At least it was pro rated and I got almost all of my money back

In Canada ESP is NON REfundable. Dunno why, same company ...different country? Why is Canada so different? Maybe government legislation?

Canada has nearly no consumer protection law...thus airbags being "rebuilt" and sold in used cars....CRAZY!
