I am getting ready to tear down my motor and fix these oil leaks. Do I have to buy the specialty tools for removing/installing the oil slinger and front/rear seals?

Just reading through the shop manual but it doesn't have a good picture of the oil slinger and I was wondering what else I could use to remove/install it along with if a standard seal puller/installer would work for the seals.

Wow no one? I figured someone else would have done this by now.

Just looking up the P/N's I found in the book for the tools and I am looking at about $300-400 just for the bearing and oil slinger tools. Probably more than that. If I have to spend that much money just in tools I may just borrow a truck and bring my motor some where else for the repair work as I think it would cost me less to pay some one than buy the factory tool.

Has anyone used tradition race bearing drivers and pullers, or something along the line of and axle bearing puller.

More concerned with the front seal at the moment and I can decide on the rear with the oil slinger or not when I get everything else done. It looks as though the front could definitely be installed with a bearing driver but not sure about using a hook type puller to yank it or if this would damage something.

I had really thought that some other had replaced at least one of these seals on their own at some point. Going to Northern Tool to see what I can find....

No experience with this, but keep posting as I should learn this stuff soon. Maybe one of the more "gearhead" sites has something in tech forums.

Started to make the rounds to a couple other forums. We will see what comes back.

Well I got help on the front seal from an old member, going to yank it with a hook type. Install should just need a big socket or use a 2x4 and a mallet.

For the rear I just pulled the seal housing and both the seal and slinger came with it. I cheated and read my buddies Chiltons for his van and it said to pull the cover to change the seal. The slinger came right off when the cover came loose, the seal just needs to be tapped out of the cover and a new one pressed in.

Not sure if I will even use the oil slinger. I have heard and read that it's not necessary and can free up a few hp. I'll think about it and it should only be about $10 at the dealer if I decide to use it.
