Hey folks!

I have a few questions that I would like answered.

Exactly how does our traction control work? When it becomes active, what does the computer do to control it? Reduce power to the wheels, one wheel?

Do to an unfortunate event on the freeway, I nailed a sheet of Sheetrock supported by 2x4's. I was only doing ~75 at time of impact. No airbag delployed, thankfully. Damage consists of foglight ripped out of scket, headlight to be reaimed, and a fair amount of paint damage. That reminded me that I do not have a Haynes/? manual for the car. What book is reccommended? Obviously, need a body book but most of the time it will be engine related.

Keyless entry? Where can I find the code? It is not listed in my owners manual. Bi checked the trunk. Someone said it was there. The other location was the computer, but there goes my dilemma again, no book to tell me where it is. On my SHO it was behind the glovebox ... Is it in the same place.

As for a full size spare tire? Considering that I do not want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a full size rim from an 03, or a nice polished rim .... Can I be a cheap individual and buy a full size from a wrecked 03/04 Marquis or Crown Vic? Besides not looking good, what other issues would I have running the 16 inch rim? I need to consider that a Baer Brake upgrade is in my future.

Thanks!
Anthony

WOW Dude! SORRY to hear of your trouble! WISH I KNEW those answers; but I'm not sure myself; I'll leave that to the others.

Your keyless entry code would've been on one of the white w/ Blue numbers/lettering "mini-credit card" looking things...but obviously you don't have that...when new they tucked them into those fancy black zip-up Owners Manual carriers...maybe be visiting a Ford/Mercury dealer you can find it via your VIN and Keys??? (at least they should be able to tell you what the code was set as from the Factory...)

GOOD Luck and we'll see what the others tell you; I'm SURE they'll get you squared away~! Take care,

What's uuuuuup.

Hey folks!

I have a few questions that I would like answered.

Exactly how does our traction control work? When it becomes active, what does the computer do to control it? Reduce power to the wheels, one wheel? It applies the brakes. So if you get stuck in the snow, make sure your traction control is OFF or you will destroy your rotors if you go nutty trying to get un-stuck.

If you get a 16" spare, and have a flat on the back, I do not recommend going more than, oh, 5 feet down the road.
Thanks!
Anthony
Hope you get 'er fixed, bro.

Well from what I understand, traction control applies braking pressure to the tire or tires that are spinning until they don't. When you do burnouts you disable this feature. The code is located behind the driver side door paneling , you have to take the trim apart "interior paneling". Or pay for the dealer to retrieve it, maybe somebody has another answer. But that's what I got.Good luck on the impact fix, At least your alright..:)

The traction control pulls timing to reduce power. Not sure if it also applies the brakes, maybe if only one wheel is spinning.

Get a set of the OEM manuals from Helm, or if you can get a genuine Ford service manual DVD those are pretty good too.

The keypad code is attached to the DCM (door control module) inside the driver's door panel.

A 16" wheel won't fit with the Baer brakes.

+1, what he said, wasn't aware of the timing thing? Good Job ford nut, you have good info! I did notice from Helm Inc, you have to order two manuals one engine chassis ect, and one electrical, kind of sucks but wada you going to do. :burnout:

The physical damage is not that bad. I will find a place to respray the front bumper, the rest is easy.

Cool info on traction control. The flashing light just made me wonder whatth car was doing. :)

drivers door panel will come off tomorrow.

So no go on the 16inch wheel. Does tha mean I will have to buy a full size spare from the Marauder or are there other options?

Thanks! And by the way you all are quick to respond!

Ahhhh Flashing light? What does that mean? The check eng, or ABS, or air bag. If so count the flashes.;)

Ya, that's the light that briefly comes on and let's you know A.) Your tires are free spinning, and B.) The car is kicking in the traction control. 99.99% of the time, I turn mine off as soon as I get in the car.

OEM space saver spare is probably best for a car with traction control. Full size spare will work ok, but you may have to turn off traction control if it is on the rear.

Flashing light is the traction control light. It tends to come on whenmaking turns, sometimes ... I can't imagine why ...

Space saver spare is great for just that, saving space. But if I am 200+ miles from home in the middle of night, I do not want to drive on one at 50mph! I can turn the traction control off if I out the spare on.
So on rims, what other rims fit our cars? Do the mustang 5 lug fit?

I had traction control on my 2000 GM and it sucked, IMHO! With it on I couldn't get a running start to get up a hill. Like CBT I just turned mine off. I don't have it on my '03.

Are you running stock size tires all around? Taller in rear? If you're running same size all around, the tc light will come on in turns. Happens with my 17" same-size all around winter tires. I always turn off the tc when I get in the car unless there's snow on the road and it's slow going.

Stock tire size, heavy foot, twisty road = flashing traction light at times. :D

I am still learning to drive the high powered rear wheel drive car. It performs much differently in the turns then my old front wheel drive car.
