Two years ago I tuned and tweaked his set up he was having over heating issues so he sent the car here we found a bad alternator and we also found the after market fans were not coming on with the A/C so we fixed that did a oil change changed the plugs did a compression check gave the car a clean bill of health and strapped it on the Dyno.

And so there is no bickering every on can do the math as to what this would make if it had a six speed insted of the automatic. I allready know.

thanks for today Dennis.

He drove from here this morning to Cape Hatteras and the car averaged 23.5 MPG, at 80 MPH. Tom has 2:73 gears in this car if you listen to the video you can tell that the car takes fore ever to wind up, he told me he had the speedo to the U in MARAUDER at the bottom of the speedometer and the car is not even running 5200 RPM I would say this car could do much more.

Hey Dennis what does smoothing:0 mean?
Dennis Reinhart
01-16-2010, 07:00 PM
Smoothing straightens out the AF, I use a AFM 100 for A/F corections only and I uses the Dyno jet tail pipe sniffer for a visual during the pull, the wide band is more accurate, on Landy's car he did not have the rear 02 bungs so I uses the sniffer but either trace will smooth out some and it can make the RWHP go up by a little not much, but that is not the reason. and Tom Landy was standing right there as shown by the pictures and seen all the runs before I printed it.

Tom is a really cool guy....and I have driven his torque monster Marauder!
I like the low (numerical) gears that he has and I bet that on the highway he can kill just about anything!
BTW: Tom....how you been? I took the Cobra over to the 'Holy Donut' cruise in early November, but I didn't see you there.

Very stout torque numbers, would lower gears such as those help with traction off the line as well? Beautiful car Dennis

definitely. i have 4.10s now and i just light them up, especially with the 3500 stall and 435ftlbs lol. im thinking about going back to the 355s when i put my 31 spline axles in.

This is why i will NEVER put 4:10's in mine.
Dont see the point with a roots blower (especially with soon to be 2.8 blower & 4# cobra crank pulleys)
And yes tom doans car is a beast!!! :burnout:

I like my 4.10 gears most of the time. It would be nice to have a little bit higher gear for the highway.
Nice to see Tom's car is still running good.

That's the thing! Most of my marauder driving is highways & open roads.
I'm not knocking 4:10's they're just not for me.

I just got back, 1900 miles in 4 days,I'm sore. Thank you for the kind words. The video shows the car making a 100mph jump in 12 seconds, 55 to 155mph. I showed a blowhard the very same run on the road with him in the passenger seat and Shamu did it just as effortlessly.

I map four values most of the time torque, power, AF, and boost and RPM. I can add speed, I will do that tomorrow

those #s make me want to put my 3.55's back on, i wonder how it would behave with the centri.
With the centrifugal blower I would keep the 4:10's.

IT IS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU THE CUSTOMER WANT. Tom never drag races, if you want the low low 60' time and low ET go with 4"10's centrifugal or roots and PI converter, top speed go with a lower rear end as Tom has. It is all about what you want.

I gently lift off the gas at 130 and shift into 4th and roll back on full tilt and the push in the back says we got a whole lot more go to go.

Dear Brad, I meant I would have to drink the sea breezes before strapping in the PASSENGER seat with Tom at the wheel at 160 plus mph to disaster just a Strong sedative.

I wonder what Tom's top speed would be? Maybe take it to the Texas mile someday?
Tom Doan
01-24-2010, 03:28 PM
Top speed is easy to figure out;
It all depends on what is selected for your max RPM.
IF I stick with stock red line = 6250RPM then,
255-55-18" tire = 29" tire diameter,
29 X 6250 = 181233.5
3:27 rear end X 336 = 1098.7
181233.5
_________ = 164.9 in third gear which has a 1:1 ratio ;)
1098.7

that would work great if there was no air

Hey Tom,
LOL, you are a funny guy, I know how to do the math. I was wondering about real world conditions since the simple math doesn't account for factors such as wind resistance. Have you ever taken your beast to a track for a top speed run? I have heard that above 150 mph that the front tends to lift up. Have you noticed this effect?
Tom Doan
01-24-2010, 05:15 PM
I have run to red line in 3rd gear no problem, with co-pilots for proof. Doesn't mean squat. I have never tried 4th gear, that's where things start to break and air resistance limits top speed. My Roadrunner was set up the same way for road racing against Vipers, it had a theoretical top speed of 188, but I never saw more than 160 on the track. I have an empty road to play on at times that is 3 miles long and straight, with a good sight picture and the locals tell me of better stretches of road, but I would have to look at satellite maps to check. I think most of this debate is BS, unless some one has a video camera locked on to a GPS, and when I go on the GPS forum sites they talk as much trash about which is the best and the most accurate for repeatability as this site does about many multiple subjects.:shake:

Tom all is fine here, the post is fine, you always have a few to disagree thats ok, just hit ignore, you have a great car I was making a joke about sea breezes that was taken out of context but I am used to that and I think its funny, I always consider the source. So set back relax and enjoy a good Sunday at home as I am.

Tom, you have an awesome car! I hope that you don't think that I was doubting your numbers or the story. I was just wondering aloud about a real world top speed as I'm curious to know who has gone the fastest in a Marauder. I'm sure your car can certainly be a top contender in that category.

There are people that have gone faster than me on a track that have good documentation to prove it that are long gone on this site. My only point is as someone that has made some fast cars is.... trying to push a 4500 pound brick past 160 gets real tough real fast. Remember to go twice as fast takes 3 times the horsepower and that seams hard for people to understand and leads to wild claims as to top speed.:mad2:
Tom Doan
01-25-2010, 07:11 PM
What did I say some thing wrong? I'm not mad at any comments and yes the missing factor is air, very sticky stuff and the exact reason I pointed out that speed is a cubed function, to go twice as fast you need 3 times the power. The NASCAR boys need twice our power to go one third faster to 200 mph, or three times the power to go twice as fast which shows just how good 281 CID and sweet Ford engineering is. Just look at how good we match up with the Impala at the Southern shootout and they have a full liter of displacement over us. We are doing the most with the least and still have good durability.
