Cooling System Questions

Yesterday I replaced my Blower Motor Processor. When I attempted to unscrew the little round plug in the cooling system line I damn near snapped the 1/4 ratchet trying to get the thing to budge,I even soaked it with sea foam. Anybody have any advice on how I can get this thing unscrewed without tearing something up and is there a particular procedure that is 4.6 specific. I a 5.0 guy and I am extremely green when it come to working on my MM.:confused:

Don't use Seafoam, use PB Blaster or other rust penetrate. Also let the cooling system get up to operating temp as heat helps. Use a 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar with a 1/4 adapter. Don't strip out the hole or you'll be using a hammer & chisel to get it out.

Whatever you do don't strip the plug. Get an 18" or longer breaker bar.

That's what it took to get mine loose the first time.

once you get ready to fill the system, have your premixed solution ready (anti-freeze/water proportioned for your area of the country). Start the motor, turn the heater on full blast, max temp, and fill until air bubbles stop forming. you can keep the engine running until the thermostat opens and fill to the brim, replace the plug and turn off the motor. Some may advocate the front be higher than the rear of the car. Like an inclined driveway.

I've twisted off a few of the 1/4" drive nubs. Usually because the plug was over-tightened. It has an o-ring seal and doesn't have to be tightened down a whole lot to seal. I've had to use vise grips to get them loose before, but then it'll be boogered up.

I used the 1/4 ratchet and vice-grips on the edge to get mine loose.(in combination at the same time).

Put a socket in there and then tap, tap, tap with a hammer to loosen it slowly.

Kind of mimics an impact gun and lessons the chance of breaking/stripping something.

After you squirt it with PB Blaster and let it sit overnight.
