While driving home in light traffic on the highway, it was the first time taking the beast out in over a month (salt on ground), I was just starting to stretch the car's legs when a recent build Acura MDX comes weaving in and out of traffic just speeding and being reckless.
Now I know what you guys are thinking, and yeah normally I would just let stupid people go because its not worth my time/safety, but it must be that I was high on the great way the car was driving so I just decided to show him a thing or two.
I throw on the fog lamps for extra visibility in the corners and to better judge distances, and take off. I eave around a guy in the far right who had a long stretch ahead of him and catch up to the Acura. He's looking like he's getting frustrated at this point caught between a slow guy on the far left and a van in the middle lane. I sail past him with ease, and much to what I imagine is his dismay, he drops back to get around the van and closes the gap on me. I think ok, he wants a running battle. So I open it up to maybe half or two thirds throttle, but he's still hanging in there at about the same distance for about a min before I eventually start to pull away.
Just as I'm about to get a considerable lead at about three quarters throttle I see a back up coming a far ways down past a curve so I analyze on the fly which lane is moving the best and has the largest openings farther down. I tap my brakes lightly to let the guy behind me know that there's a slow down ahead and then move into the next lane that has the most cars in it, although the current far left lane has more room, is almost stopped further down.
The guy thinks I'm breaking off and looks to capitalize and close the gap in the far left but soon is almost at a stand still while I am still at a roll until a gap turns up in the right lane after an exit and I shift over and open 'er up. Eventually the guy catches up again. Only this time we're getting to the twisties leading up to the bridge. Traffic bunches up again, but I skillfully maneuver around slower vehicles while the guy begrudgingly follows as any other route is either stopped or rolling. Despite the sharp turns at my speed I still feel like I'm riding on rails.
Going over the bridge I get cought by a cab cuting in front of me and he gains and passes me. But I manage to recover, and put the hammer down on the downhill slope and come around a truck taking the lead like an eagle swooping in with the sun at its back. I open it up on the long straight away to the toll both, but he still paces behind me. Coming up we split for open lanes of ez-pass and at about 20 give or take 5 rolling in I wish I switched off the O/D because he spanked me in the first 60 feet. I catch up but then we both get caught behind some box trucks, though I drop back and slip around before he can edge around the slower one and I speed off again, though now fun time is over and my exit is up, and I don't do stunts on city streets. Wish I waved as he went past. :banana2:
Anyways, I'm chalking it up as a win as I was the smarter driver and took my time to think of what the best options were, rather than just dodging in and out willy-nilly. But the spanking from a roll really irks me though, it makes me want to break my I won't replace it unless its broke policy I've had as of late and get some 4.10 gears.
Also I think we were pretty even match, both at about 300 hp, though he/she? may have been a bit heavier, though not by much with my big self, plus the junk in the trunk.
