So my engine has 93,422 miles on it. Probably within the next 10,000 miles I'm planning on putting the Heaton from my cobra on (it's free, so why not?). Looking at the maintenance records, the car has been maintained on a regular basis. Currently the engine still feels peppy, and I know that these cars are good for many more miles. My question is this, before I add the blower on, what will I need to do to make sure I don't drive the motor to the ground? New seals, valve job? The blower is the stock Heaton with a stage 3 stiege port and a 2.7 pulley. What does everyone think?

Your not going to pass smog in Cali for sure. Unless you've got a friend of a friend. Ive done a lot of research believe me....LOL Only CARB approved kit for California is a Vortech S-Trim/Paxton SL 1500 kit.

That's the beauty of it, my cars are titled and registered in Ohio (one of the privileges of being active military). I'm exempt from all the silly emissions laws of this state :D

Did I mention I hate you...J/K
In that case slap that bad boy on. Couple members here have done the eaton conversion so its been done with great results. even with that many miles you should be fine. If you should need a shop I have a few that I can recommend that are highly regarded in NorCal.

I hope so, I mean the intent is not to race the car on a regular or even irregular basis. I just want a faster MM that can get up and move and occaisionally make a believer out of someone who thinks I drive a grandma car.

After reading what you said about another member's running 16lbs. and not running forged internals maybe I should reevaluate this. Currently the blower is making about 15ish lbs. on the Cobra. Or would what it makes now matter since the engine would have to be tuned?

You may get a little more blow-by past the higher mileage rings, but if the bottom end bearings are good and it'll maintain good oil pressure....
go for it!
BTW: The stock engine's survival under lots of boost is all in the tune....

I am running 16pounds of boost. I would say 14 psi like impalaslayer is runing with a good tune is safe. The lower the boost and the better the tune the safer it is. My tuner told me you can only have two out of three things fast, cheap or reliable, pick your two.

I gotcha...see this is all unfamiliar territory to me. Ask me about how to tune a Windsor or FE and I'm all over that like white on rice, but when it comes to modular motors and having to tune via the dyno, that's when I'm lost in the sauce. Yeah, I know fast and cheap isn't reliable, reliable and cheap isn't fast and fast and reliable certainly isn't cheap!

I hardly think the engine is tired after only 93K miles, especially if you did the regular maintainence. Mine's been flogged pretty good, and still run 14.3 with a bad tranny at the SSHS9 with 215K miles. (Mileage was probably more, just can't remeber exactly). 600ish time slips also. Only thing I can think of is the same as Joe, maybe slight blow-by on older rings.

Well, to me anything 85,000 and above I consider to be long in the tooth. Like I said before, I know these engines hold up over time. I just don't want to be some young punk who takes a higher mileage car, throws a blower on it and then winds up having to buy a new engine because I didn't take the necessary steps to prevent it from happening.

Yes, you may need to swap pulley sizes around in order to get the boost down. I'd say 12 lb is a pretty safe number to shoot for.

id do what he said^ im running a 3.1 upper and a +2 lower and i make 14psi. id do a +2 lower and a 3.4 upper. if its making 15 on the cobra now, with the higher compression its gona make even more. the 2.7 is definitely way to small. another other questions about the swap just let me know, illt ry to help best i can.

I don't have a tuner, yet. Still being cheap as the wife has only allowed so much that I can spend. My local shop might check the code for you, I can check on Monday. They are located in Concord on Market St.
