Are those Impala SS chevy's any kind of competition? Personally I think they are butt ugly, just wondering if I can kick the nuts of em on the street.

Hemmings did a side-by-side comparison of a 96 SS and a 03 Marauder. As I remember it they will pretty even on performance. They said the SS felt more powerful due to the torque curve of the LT-1. The SS had a better seat-of-the-pants feel. Ofcourse the Marauder didn't have 4:10's and a Lidio tune. I will find the article and send it to you.

Are you stock, or have you done any mods?
Stock to stock, the two cars are pretty close, but if you're running a tune and 4:10 gears you should smoke a stock SS.

Running stock, looks like I have a bit of work to do. have to wait a bit though. Still I bet I could surprise 'em. I have not seen another MM here in Bakersfield for 6 or 7 months. So i am thinking they will be thinking "What is that?" then "What was that?".
To morf the thread, I had it in the shop for oil and the mechanics had never seen one.

Not uncommon. If I had a buck for everyone who told me how nice my Crown Vic looked....

Better than having people tell you how nice your Caprice is. Those caprice SS's are so, so ugly

If you are thinking about a current Chevy SS fwd, you will need some mods to stay with them.
If you are talking about the 94-96 Impy SS the Marauder needs a stretch of highway to outshine the Chevy.

On the skreets, the stock Impy should wax you pretty good. They are quicker off the line, and it's hard to get a 1/4 in on the public roads. The other BIG problem you will run into, there aren't many stock Implalas left, most have been somewhat tweaked.
In a drag race the the SS will take you down in most cases.

The good news is that you'll never see this happen to a Marauder.

I read the gearing in the trans alone is why they are quicker than MM's in the quarter.

Oh snap! That was a 94 too, the rarest of them all! Owning both...I think they feel pretty even off the line, but then again I haven't beat on either of them. the LT1 made 360 tq @ 3200 rpm and we all know that the MM made 318 @ 5700. Rear end in an Impala is a 3.08...

torque is what gets your fat ass moveing in the first place

What I felt when I test drove a '96 earlier this year was that it was quicker from off the line and gave up just before the speed where the Marauder really kicks in.
This was on a mostly-stock '96 and I am comparing it to my mostly-stock '03.
Just my $0.02.

Agreed. If I've got one complaint about my car, it's lack of low end torque. The 4:10s help get it moving off the line, but IMO, there's still no substitute for power on the low end.

Anyone know of a head to head 1/4 mile between the two? stock and mod.

Stock they are almost identical at the 1/4 mile. Both mid 15 second cars

Yeah, If I *HAD* to own one, I'd take one of the older boxy ones.
At least the Ford design IMPROVED over time.:P

The Impalas truly are the ugliest mothers out there. Especially that AWFUL dashboard. Marauders are beautiful in every way. I'm happy to lose a drag race to an Impala if it means I can enjoy the beauty of my Marauder.

ABSOLUTLY! There must have been something in the water when they did the clay on that one.

the best description i have heard of the bubble caprice body, is that it looks like an over-full vacuum cleaner bag.
The cadillac deville back then and the roadmaster were similarly horrid looking, bloated cars. They didn't look good when they were new.
