I put some pics of the car torn apart right now and my tiny garage. Called the album work in progress but can't get the correct link for some reason. You can just click the thumb nails.

Why is the engine out? What did I miss?

Nothing to bad, a couple of PIA oil leaks, getting the timing cover powder coated, headers fixed and coated again, had the transmission rebuilt, and getting a better torque converter. This really started when I lost 3rd gear and the project kind of exploded form there. Nothing fancy like an SC, just some general clean up, a little dress up and fixing the oil pan/timing cover leaks.

I'm also doing the front upper control arms and front brakes while it is up. I will also be replacing the factory power and grounds with 4 gauge cable. This in prepartion for my stereo system and high output alternator coming sometime this year when I build a new box.

I did a complete subframe off, shell on stands 80 Z28 in a one car garage. I feel your pain. Looking good though!

Looking great! Geesh - You da mann! - I have that old crappy grey/black heat shield above my trans. If I was smart I'd have replaced it like you did! When I replaced my TC and trans.

Good call on getting the front cover powder coated (shiney silver?) I just painted mine when I had it off for my timing chain tensioners on my old 2v.

My suggestions to add: Full MMR Windage Tray (plus) the rear head cooling kit. (plus) the way better than stock EMP Stuart water pump (Summit has them for $149 I think)

Impressive job. I'd be afraid to pull my motor. I will someday, guess I'm just working up to it- plus I need a engine lift..

Thanks guys, the limited space does make it a PIA but I have enough room to get what I need done. When we move later this year I will thoroughly enjoy the 2-3 car garage I will be getting. More room for more tools and toys. Hopefully the ceilings will be high enough for a lift, if not I will have to do some remodeling to the garage to make it vaulted.

I definitely wouldn't have the balls to do a sub frame off like that in this tiny space Bob. This is a challenge enough by itself, but wouldn't be as bad if I could get rid off some of my old crap I have sitting around. Just can't find a home for these old 5.0s and misc stuff from my 91 Cougar.

Thanks for the compliment babbage. The new OE insulator is okay but I think that the DEI stuff would probably work just as well and be cheaper. Kind of ticked me off because I had to cut it or remove a body mount to get it in. I chose to cut it and use some self adhesive reflective stuff I already had to reconnect the 2 pieces. I'll take a couple pics of the area I'm talking about later.

I went with a shiny dark grey. It is like a dark gun metal with metal flake in it and I plan on having the valve covers done down the road. Just feel kind of wrong stripping the black covers so I want to find the 04 natural finish ones.

I wish I could also get the windage tray but I am about tapped out on this project. I think my wife's head will explode if I say I need one more thing before this is done. I'm only about $500-700 over my original budget that started with just a tranny rebuild and still have a few more misc. items to get.

I did pick up a Emp Stewart pump and already had the rear engine cooling kit that Reinhart used to sell so I should stay plenty cool in this wonderful Florida heat come summer time.

Still have a bunch of little things to do while waiting on the timing cover and headers to get back home. Plenty of small odds and ends to keep me busy this weekend.

I feel your pain too, doing a frame off on my 64 in a 1 car garage as well.

You do always find a new nook or cranny to hide parts in though. My frame off lead to me cutting a hole in my cealing and finishing my attic so I could store parts!

The real question here is, WHY?!

Easy for you to say. I'm the one who has to explain the credit card charge to my wife. :(

Went on the MMR website for the first time ever just now and had to run away.

I could easily put us massively into debt on that website in less than 10 minutes. Saw a bunch of goodies I wanted and had to bookmark it. Just can't do anything else not on the list for now, have to behave and good things will come down the road.

Ya but you have the engine out now. The oil pan is so much easier to remove now...

We will see what February looks like. My headers and timing cover should be ready sometime in the middle of next week. I might be able to finagle some funds once February comes.

When my wife saw me on the site she looked at me with laser eyes and said don't ask for anything. Maybe I'll get her an hour massage then tell her I spent the money after she gets it.

Got a bonus so I am ordering the windage tray tomorrow. Have to give the rest to the wife for bills or else I would be buying an Eaton from ebay.

Sweet could you please post a stock vs MMR windage tray pictures please.

Nice score! I want an MMR windage tray, just a big beotch to install with engine in car. Any ideas on an easy way to do it without removing engine?

Congrats! :bows:

You could drop the crossmember, but it's easier to pull the engine.

I'm feeling daft right now. I already pulled the crossmember out, when I changed my transmission out. Is this the same one you are talking about?? I don't remember what the undercarriage looks like. (and It took me like 12 hours to do the whole R&R trans job!) No way is it easier to pull the engine than the crossmember! For starters you have to drop all of the coolant! and use an engine hoist and take the upper intake off. No way jose'

Brian are you kidding????

Different crossmember. The big aluminum crossmember that the control arms, motor mounts, steering rack, etc are attached to.

Ahh. Yes you are right - easier to pull the motor.

Oh yes engine all the way. I looked at the manual and saw what was required to do the oil pan in the car. Right then I knew the motor was coming out.

The crossmember might be easier if you had a lift. To much suspension work for me on jackstands.
