View Full Version : Rear window rattle/buzz?
Anyone else have a faint but persistent rattle in their left rear window? I just recently noticed it, and now it bugs the crap out of me.

I do... have a rattle coming somwhere from the rear drivers side door. Been driving me crazy for over a year now. It comes and goes and I have been unable to isolate it. I don't think it is the window however.
Its doing it this week and I am due for an oil change so hopefully the dealer can find it this time.

I have a buzz sound in the driver rear door also. If i press on the door panel by the lock button it goes away & then comes back. I was going to pull the panel & fix myself. Anyone know how to pull the door panel? Btw it also irritates me to death.....

It's the lower half of the drivers side rear interior door panel. There is a gap at the top of the bottom half on the rear edge of the door panel. I have shoved a shim in there and it goes away. It was a temp fix until I can get some sort of felt piece to adhere behind the door panel to dampen the vibration. I have yet to do this.
I need some thick black felt, cut to size and adhered to the steel behind the plastic door panel. Should do the trick.
I also considered finding the same material used in our drivers door. That white slick stuff between the door panel and the door steel.
Anyone else have a better idea?

Use that window weather strip that is mushy with one side sticky. It should work really well.

lotusstv,
Ford did a heck of a job hiding the screws for the door panels. The door panel has 4 bolts. The bottom has (2) 7mm head screw, easy to find. Next, remove the bezel that the window switch is in, it just pries up, there is another 7mm headed screw under that. Last screw is behind the little cover inside the door handle cup. Pop off the little cover, it has a #30 Torx head screw behind it. Now just lift the panel straight up.
Good Luck.

My rattle comes from the gray insert of the driver side rear door, but only when the car is cold. go figure! Someday I'll figure a way to stop that noise. Good luck, noises and vibrations are always fun to find.;)

I've also got a rattle from Driver rear door, grey panel, only when cold. Not the only rattle I have. Love the car but......my Town car has 100k and has less rattles than my MM.

The rattled i had was the rear deck hitting the cyclops light . i removed the light and fixed it by stuffing pieces of spunge in between the cardboard deck and the metal shelf.

Did you try the dealer?? No, not yet. It really sounds like something is hitting the bottom of the window glass, inside the door. I'm going in next week to have some other little things done. Will have it checked then.

Has anyone ever had any luck correcting this problem? This noise has started on mine and it is VERY annoying. At first I thought it was the ashtray hole cover, but it continued after I secured it. This problem also occurs on my mom's 03 Grand Marquis.
