Tallboy advised Marauder drivers, in a recent post on the MCM site, to remember to change the differential fluid (at recommended intervals I presume).

This is a service requirement that should not be neglected. Inspection and/or repair of the limited slip clutches can also be accomplished at the same time.

Scheduled Interval is 150,000 miles. However, Tallboy's experience indicates a shorter interval is advisable.

I do mine at 60,000 mile intervals.

I've done mine twice in the year that I've owned.

I do mine at 50K mile intervals and had the rear end rebuilt at 177K miles but the OE LSD clutches were fine and still do the "two stripe" at 210K+ miles!!!! :bows: :burnout: :D

Already posted this, but it is important for positraction vehicles.

Changed my Marauder's rear differential gear oil at 45,000 miles. Oil was dirty brown rather than honey color and had posi-clutch particles in it. The oil did not have any metal in it as checked with a magnet. Wish I had changed it sooner.

Now I have 65,000 miles on my Marauder and plan to change the differential gear oil at 70,000 miles and do another inspection.

Poor lubrication is listed as part of the problem with the rear axle failures. My Marauder was made December 2, 2002.

Is changing the fluid more mileage dependant than age? I have 33K on mine and was just wondering.

Mileage dependent.

Also if you make a lot of turns, you would need to change it more. The Positraction clutches work the gear oil more if you turn more and can put particles into the oil. I wish I had changed mine at 35,000 miles and then 70,000 miles would not be early. I would definately change it by 45,000 miles when I changed mine.

It appears that the Marauders that have the rear axle problem have it at around 50K to 60K and never had the differential oil changed. One person changed the oil after the rear axle started to make noise and said the change did not help. I think it was too late by then, as the damage was done.

You can change it every month or every 100K miles and neither will make much difference!!!:shake:

If you have bad axles they will go out regardless and changing the fluid after they start making noise or bright metal flakes show up on the magnetic fill plug WILL NOT HELP AT ALL!!!

Best policy is to check the oil level and the plug for metal every 10K miles or so!! LSD clutch dust and heat will not hurt the synthetic fluid that Ford recommends.....just discolor it some!!

My $.02...FWIW!!:D

For the driving that I do, I'll pass.

Also, with the smallest of mods that my MM has, I'm more worried about having to replace axles at a time where money is tight.

Roy,
What is the build date of your MM?
Have you change the differential gear oil yet?
Thanks
