I did not realize how complicated this topic is. I recently put a set of Borla Pro XS mufflers on (rest stock) and was very disappointed. Went back to stock as a result. Borla doesn't make cat back for MM which is why I went with just mufflers. Can anyone suggest the best "recipe" for an awesome sounding exhaust front to back? Are there any "tuned" systems designed exclusively for our MM's? I would be willing to replace any part of the exhaust motor back but want to remain street legal as well. As for sound, looking for nice, rich, low rumble without interior drone. Something similar to tuned Borla cat back set-ups. Not concerned with cost, just satisfaction of net result. Also looking for a great shop to do the work if anyone has suggestions. I live in New Jersey. Thoughts?

I'm real happy with the Kooks headers, high flow cats, X pipe, and Magnaflows, which at the time were sold as a kit, specifically tuned for the Marauder. Others here will have their own opinions, all which are valid in their eyes. Figure out which way you want to go, and then try to find some folks so you can listen to each setup. PM me if you want me to phone you and "play my tune" for you.

Cool! Thanks! I take it they don't sell as a kit anymore? Where did you purchase from? Any drone?

A few of the guys on here have changed out their mufflers with the Aero2525 and then done the delete resonators on their tips and they seem to have a good sound:

A complete exhaust system.... shorty Jet Hot coated stainless steel headers, custom mandrel bent down pipes, 2 hi flow stainless steel cats, custom X pipe, 2 polished stainless steel 18" Magnaflow mufflers and stock Marauder tips. All the pipe is 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel.

if you had removed the second set of cats you would have gotten more of the sound you are looking for.

I have a question about the full exhast kit in general. Is the full exhaust kit the better route to go in the long run or can I save $$$ by just buying for ex. LTH and X or H pipe and still have some what of the same performance output.

I tried running straight pipes with no mufflers for about a month holy crap it was badd **** loud, but way to much drone in the cabin,????so i then changed to flowmaster super 44's removed the 2nd set of cats and replaced the stock tips with stainless tips i think it sounds almost better than the clip above the tips i put on do not have a rolled lip on the end just straight the lip i think gives it a cackling sound..........

My car was/is a daily driver, (for sale now), and I used it at work so I didn't want obnoxious. On the advice of Flowmaster tech support, I only went with a pair of Flowmaster Series 40 Delta mufflers and Magnaflow 4" resonator delete tips. I am/was very happy with the sound. At idle has a low rumble, you can hear it inside the cabin at accelleration but not onnoxious, little louder outside to the rear of the car, (I listened several times as my friends drove the car away), but it is never obnoxious and I don't get complaints. I constantly get compliments, never complaints.
On my previous 2004 Crown Vic. Police Interceptor, I had the Magnaflow cat-back system installed at a professional shop. The system is specified for the 2006-07 Crown Vics, but will fit on the earlier panthers with some tweaking and tuning on a lift. Sounded great on the CVPI and I imagine would sound better on the Marauder but never personally tried it. My exhaust guy told me it would work on the Marauders with the same amount of fitting and tweaking.
I have listened to the Marauders with the headers, with and without loud custom cat-backs, etc. These systems are much louder then my liking, it is all matter of personal taste. Several members have removed a pair of the cats, but that is not permitted here in PA and the car would fail state inspection. I believe the same is for New Jersey.

Thanks so much all the informative input. I saw your video and could hear the sound a bit. Sounds sweet and I'm sure even better under throttle. Where did you purchase? From the exhaust shop direct? Do you happen to have an exhaust shop that you can recommend? The shops around here I don't trust would take the time to do the job right. I don't mind spending the money but want a good job as a result. I hate it when the tips are not even, etc. and with these duals and the way they can be seen, it's a tricky job to get just right. Maybe a shop who specializes in performance work would have a better understanding of the detail needed in this case. Thanks again.

Did you try the Flowmaster website? Stock size is 2.5 inlet / outlet (center & offset) & 18' long body.

I like the way the Mustangs sound, the problem is the muffs in the Mustangs are closer to the tailpipes giving them a better sound. Too bad they don't have a system like that for our cars..
