Hey everyone. I had another thread up about this issue im having, but it began to die off. Just wanted to see if anyone has installed a aftermarket 200, 220, or 250 amp alternator, and is so has it solved the issue of your interior lights flickering a lot? Thanks

When do they flicker?

I just got a 250amp from DB Electric. Haven't installed it yet. No problems with my lights just wanted to upgrade.

at night with the lights on, foot on the brake, maybe a turn signal maybe not. Basically in nighttime situations when your using as much electricity as possible. I have a brand new battery in the car so i know that not the issue. I can notice it mainly when i look at the gauge pods.

Do you have underdrive pulleys?

Had a similar problem on my first MM. I could actually see the voltmeter bouncing with the turn signal on.

Ended up being the main ground cable from the battery to the
block was corroded on the engine side. I replaced the ring terminal and it was all good.

Check both of them, like I said the main negative cable and the one from the rear of the motor to the chassis.

no i dont have undedrive pulleys. I was just thinking about upgrading the alternator so it can withstand the sound system im putting in the MM. Its nots going to be a big sound system, but its still a complete upgrade from stock, and i will be putting a capacitor in as well.

I will check the grounds and ring terminals as well. Thanks cougar for the advice.

That will kill your alternator, guaranteed....

You can also add an additional ground from the battery to the frame.

You could get a tune and raise the idle rpm.

so many things to choose from lol. Im going to check the terminals first. Ive had a 1.5 farad capacitor in my previous car (2000 buick lesabre) and it never killed my alternator. It had a 2000 watt system in it and it did a great job along with my optima yellow top of limiting the dimming in my car on heavy notes.

I had the same problem, I just upgraded my wiring and the flickering went away.
