These just arrived via the "Big Brown Truck".

As soon as it gets warmer they will be installed.

Sweet! What's next, positive manifold pressure?

Does the alternator still use a clutch, like the stock unit, to free wheel at WOT? IMHO, that is one of the coolest features on the car.

Yes. I also have a DB alt.

I've seen some of them with the clutch pulley and others with a standard pulley. Anybody with a Trilogy should be able to specify. Mine has an 8-rib, when I sent it back to them for repairs they put a new 8-rib pulley on it, so anybody with a centrifugal and 8-rib conversion should be able to specify that also.

BTW, if nobody noticed, the one in the picture is the non-clutched pulley.

That is correct.

That link doesn't work.

This is the one I got.

I wanted it chromed, they don't do it for this one. They will powder coat it but there is too much variation in colors, so I got this one "natural"

Nice alternator - I wonder if the belt will chirp on the 1-2 shift now at WOT.
DB Electric also has a nice thick fused cable to get the most out of it too. Where does the alt feed go? On my old P71 it went to the PDU.

There is another great place to order custom HD cables from: http://custombatterycables.com
Here is a picture of theirs vs stock - which one would you rather have?

They can custom make exactly what you want. I got a 0/2 "Double Ought" one for my old CV with a 200amp ALT with HD regulator and HD rectifier.

Your gonna get one of these too right?

I'm doing my own cables & 250amp fuse.

You can go to your local ace pickup some number two or even number 4 welding cable a couple of copper lugs, the alternator wiring runs to the power ditrubution block(fuse box on passenger side of car). This alternator cable from what i hear should be fused, before I upgraded my alternator I ran the wire unfused without issue but I wouldnt risk it. I have since added a 300amp wafer fuse to the line.

i actually enjoy making cables, dunno why.

Nope: from the site I posted - they also sell components if you want to make your own...

Welding cable is built to be flexible so the welder does not have to work hard to drag the wires around. It usually has a high temp rating and a soft flexible insulation. I have seen it swell up when exposed to oil.; do NOT use it in an application where it will get oily. For that reason I do not recommend it for automotive applications. Welding cable tends to be large gauge wire so I think the guys that claim welding cable is the very best stuff to use do so because they are comparing very large 2/0 welding cable to a small #2 battery cable. They don't really understand why it's better. If they compared apples to apples, a 2/0 welding cable to a 2/0 battery cable in a oily under-hood application they would agree that the SGT/SGX battery cable is a better choice.

Babbage, from what I read the fine fibers of welding cable is more suited to conducting dc current. The cable from the company you are refrencing may have a better insulation I really dont know. But the alternator cable really isnt exposed to oil unless your puring quarts of 5w20 all over your engine compartment. Also all cable should be covered in wire loom and then wrapped with some sort of tape, further protecting the cable. And the cost may be considerably cheaper but I am not 100% on the cables you purchased.

I like to coat my whole engine bay with WD-40 (minus headers and air filters of course) to keep it clean and keep it from oxidizing. The SGT/SGX cable is far more rigid (stays put and won't "droop" down) less wire ties etc.

Make your own cables fine - get good parts - don't forget the HD heat shrink jackets too. I've got from there - truly a thing of beauty. ;) That's all I'm sayin'

I got some cables made at a local car stereo shop. Large gauge, fine strands, nice crimped terminals, good insulation.
