This is what I am planning on doing this week. Along with the daunting task of getting the engine bay cleaned and aluminum re polished. Started the engine a little bit today, Holy smoke batman it is filthy. Got a buddy who is coming over to help out and show me how it's done. Gonna be a long week but at least temps are rising :D

Installed a new HID kit in my MM. The hi/lo controller on the old system had some corrosion on it again and didn't feel like cleaning it. The old kit used different plugs so had to put in a new kit to use with the new hi/lo controller.

I like the new system high beam, it tilts the bulb up unlike the old one system which used activated a magnet to retract the bulb back to shift the light beam pattern up to simulate high beams.

Sunday: barely got the Galaxie started at a friend's house; drove it home, pulled the starter

Monday/Tuesday: got the starter rebuilt

Wednesday: installed the starter; kicks over like a new car, warm or cold

Big test will be on a hot, muggy, summer day, but the new starter and new battery did the trick, so far.

Next project, replace power steering return hose and rear quarter window weatherstripping.

I started installing my air/fuel gauge lasts night, realized the how much of a disaster my alarm system wiring was and spent the next 10 hours tearing it out and fixing the butcher job. While I was at it, I fixed the *****ty moonroof wiring.

On a positive note, the car started when I was done, the keyless entry pad works again, and I installed the gauge and it's harness, now all I have to do is drop the exhaust and weld in the O2 bung.

Got an overdue all wheel alignment. Rear end was right on the money, and front end
calibrated to spec's CarFixer posted a while back. All was in factory green when started, now I should see more even wear on the fronts. At least I have a base line. Alignment tech was excellent: took his time and did it right.
Washed and vacuumed car. Noticed some paint fade on the front hood; clear coat is in excellent condition though. Probably a combination of sun, heat, and marginal factory paint. New tread all the way around mounted on chrome aftermarket rims, plus force balanced recently. Pretty much ready for the Ford National trip to Penna.

Today I gave it it's weekly bath and installed a pair of NEW OEM headlamp assembiles with the Sylvania ZXE bulbs I bought from NXSbob...while I was at it I also put the Xpel headlight protection film on the new headlamps. I'll tell you that stuff is way thicker than I thought it would be. I didn't put it on the fogs or marker lamps yet...although I should put it on the fogs since they're only a couple of months old. I plan to get new marker lamps at which time I'll install the Xpel.

I also decided it was time to upgrade the dash backlighting since I felt it was too dark. I removed the cluster and used a combination of white SMD LED's and a green SMD LED strip. Overall I'm very happy with it with the exception that on the tach there is a dark area by the 4,000 RPM digit. When I have time I'll open it up and rearrange the strip, but I can live with it for awhile.
Side note...It was the first time the dashboard panels were removed for sure, and I hope I don't end up with squeaks and rattles.

I also really like the green tint to the odometers due to the green LED strip :D

I feel in Love with my 300A.

Woke up at 6:45am, went outside in my boxers and tee shirt (boxers were clean, car was clean), and drywashed and then waxed my hood, roof, rear deck, and sides down to molding.

Showered, dressed (casual day), and drove the kids to school in the NEW Marauder.

Discovered from a fellow Marauder that in town the car drives better with O/D off... so I tried it around town. Went for a 10 miles cruise and PASSED MY CA SMOG with CAI, TUNE, etc... Smog Guy said it ran cleaner than an NEW HONDA LEV... and was clearly impressed and interested in car (he may just have been a saleman!).

Drove the Marauder some more, and then delivered it to the WHEEL SPECIALISTS who are going to strip down and re-clear coat my 15,000 VIRGIN miles wheels (1st rubber change - just 2 weeks ago -- no marks whatsoever) to repair damage to each wheel's clearcoat where the tire guy tried to get the glue off from the showroom weights and "cleaned the wheels for me" get this... with a steel brillo pad. Yes, as the wheels were SHOWROOM NEW --I , a grown man, felt like fighting, or crying, or perhaps both at he same time.

Tire shop is old cool friend and paying for repair. Wheel shop owner is cool, andwas resealing Ferari wheels while I was there. Repair place said they's strip, buff, polish, re-clear thicker, and repolish much better than the "very very thin original stock coat" and that the insides would be nearly perfect...

So my Marauder (I think his name is Damien), is sitting on a stand, wheel-less for the next week.

And yes, I showed them the AIR SUSPENSION off switch. With my luck....

Get the j-mod and then you'll have to back the shift pressure down to 0 or 5% otherwise it will feel like you are going to break something.

I finished my AF gauge install: dropped my exhaust and welded in the bung. Of course I broke a bolt in the passenger side collector of my cobra shorties. So I drilled it out and used a nut and bolt instead of threading it into the collector flange.

I've done a few things in the last few days:
Installed a Pioneer head unit (avh-p3400bh) with steering wheel controls and parking break bypass.
Installed a JL Audio 6W3V3-4 Subwoofer (6-1/2" - 4ohm). I had to modify the OEM subwoofer box with a heat-gun. Pretty easy actually.
Changed differential oil - long story on issues regarding installation of 4.10s.
Changed car battery.

After looking at a whole lot of paint samples, I wound up going with the same black. My second choice was the current black on new Lincolns. It has a lot of fine flake in it, but in the sun, it just looks a bit too gaudy. The plain black just looks the best and the meanest IMHO. Should look real nice when they get it done, and no more bubbling paint (that's why it had to go down to bare metal). I will post pictures when I get it back. Likely next week, I think.

Hi all,

I finally got the window tint on the back door windows and rear windshield replaced on Friday. WOW, does it look better now! The rear windshield tint has been bubbled up for years now and the right rear door window was peeling badly. Even my wife remarked on how much better it looked. (She's not really into cars but likes driving the Marauder because it's a big, safe car with plenty of pickup.) The tint guy said mine was probably the last tint stripping he would do this season because it took so long. I dropped it off at the tinting shop after getting the oil, oil filter, air filter, and windshield wipers changed and running it through the car wash. It still looks pretty good even with 211K miles on her. :)

Come again?

If you are referring to cams as I think you are, then you start at the $1299.00 base level for cams only, then find out you should have bought the heavier springs for another $400 or so, plus retainers, keepers, ETC. Don't forget to buy adjustable gears, key ways, degree kit, and the Ford supplement kit for another $300 or so. By now you probably also need a complete timing set for $450 from Ford Racing. But don't let me discourage you.

Oh wait, there is also labor!

1stMerc,

The old tint was in really bad shape and had been on quite a few years. The guy called to tell me it would probably ruin the defrost and my radio has the common problem with no reception so I told him to go ahead. It looks so much better now! I did try the defrost this morning when I worked off but it no longer works. :(

What percent tint did you get installed?
Loud2004marquis,

It was replaced with the same percent used the first time, generally called Limo Tint. The front door windows are lighter. Originally all the side windows and rear windshield were the same but my wife got a ticket for tint on I-10 a little while after it was done and I had it replaced with a lighter, (legal) tint.

Yeah, my tint has been on since 05 and rear window is showing little tiny air bubbles. Needs to be redone but don't want to take a chance on ruining the strips, so it stays for now.

I did it myself, It's a little more complicated on a Vortech car because the supercharger has to come off, it's doable but never want to do it again.

Didn't do anything to my car (other than put gas in it), but was such a great day that involved my car, so had to post up.

Took the kids to lunch at Cook-Out; after I placed my order (went inside as it was a bit too warm to sit out), the little cutie behind the register asked if I was the one with the silver car. I said yes, and she asked some more questions and I gave her the 411 about our MMs...walked outta there with her phone number. :coolman:

Went through downtown on the way to/from Cook-out; lots of people out and had more than a handful of stares and a few compliments...I obliged with a little throttle to let my exhaust speak a few words. :cool4:

Got home and checked my mail; my instrument cluster (thanks Trevor!), my blue LEDs that I ordered, and my rent money from my PM were all there waiting for me.

Was a good day, indeed.

First I tried BBQ paint on my calipers and the winter salt caused the rust to come right through. Put the rust treatment on and it turned them nice and black. Have not had an issue in 4 months with heat or anything.

Before I painted my calipers I bought brand new ones.

The base coat I used was Header paint primer that promotes bonding to the metal plus it can withstand extreme heat. This can withstand 2,000 degrees.

Then I did my paint color I wanted VHT caliper paint can withstand 900 degrees. Same with the top clear coat 900 degrees.

I think I am on year 3 now with this paint work and it still looks like the day I did it.

I already have red powered coated Wilwoods up front.

Obtained a set of rear calipers that I'm in the process of cleaning up and smoothing the surface, then it's off to get power coated.

Will swap them out the same time I do the 31 spline axles, TCE SS brake lines, rear shocks and slotted rotors.

Well they work fine on my Marauder!

I got them from Raybestos with their high tech performance brake pads and the drilled and slotted rotors.

The pads have never made a single sound and have never left any dust behind either.

Plus I also have the braided lines on as well from TC.

Took off the master and adjusted the push rod till it sat just against the piston so I get instant response from touching the brake pedal.

I have no complaints about the brakes or the paint work I did on them to date.

I do not drive her much but I still change the brake fluid out every other year to keep it clean and clear.

Drained the oil, dropped the oil pan, and changed the gasket on my wife's Lincoln LS.

Tomorrow, a friend/mechanic is coming over to work on my Galaxie's p/s leak and to see if I really need a new serpentine belt on the LS. (I think I do.) We'll torque the oil pan bolts at that time.

Also, on the Galaxie, changed the weather stripping on the rear quarter windows, repaced the front parking light lenses with amber lenses (a real PITA; the old amber bulbs would not come out), replaced the dashboard "LIGHTER" and "AIR" bezels, and just learned that the Galaxie replacement instrument cluster bezel is no longer being manufactured.

Bummer.

To do:

Pull the Galaxie instrument cluster, repaint it, and replace the "TEMP" and "FUEL" clear plastic lenses.

That should be fun. Can't wait to squirm under the dash to pull the speedo cable and the various bulbs/connections.

I changed out the system Fluid to High temp Synthetic Brake fluid for starters to handle issues with boiling fluid and increased pressure.

But I did make sure there is no resistance between the master piston plunger and the push-rod from the brake booster when I made the adjustments originally.

But your right it is a good idea to remind people that care needs to be taken when doing this. :D

Went over to Gordon's Garage today with my dad and we installed drilled & slotted rotors, new ceramic pads, ss brake lines and put my old blue calipers back on from my old Marauder.

Unfortunately when taking the rear drivers side rotor off looks like my emergency brake shoe was warped/melted onto the inside. After banging the rotor off with a sledgehammer, bits and pieces off the bottom shoe fell out. I'm going to have to start a thread in the brake forum. Anyone ever replace the shoes before? Are they Marauder specific or is it similar to a grand maq or crown Vic?

Anyways I won't be using my e brake until I replace the shoes. In the meantime, the new brakes are doing great!
