View Full Version : Need new bumper covers

Hi
Some dude just smashed into the back of my marauder at a stop sign. He gouged two nice holes in the rear bumper cover on my marauder. I'm pissed, but he did about 5 grand worth of damage to his car and set is airbags off. I barely noticed someone hit me ;p
So now I need a new bumper cover and the prices are all over the map. Anyone have experience buying a cover from one of those discount sites online. They seem to have them for about $250-$400, part M760104P.
Is that part really a marauder bumper cover from Ford or an exact replica? Trying to figure out if it is worth putting a claim in with my insurance company. Already have a $350 paint quote (Ford panther bumpers get destroyed in NYC all the time. Ordering a new bumper paint job is like ordering a hamburger around here.)
TIA.

I just went through this.
First estimate was "repair & repaint" $500.
Then, they took it off & decided it needed to be replaced (+1000 for OE cover).
I got them to give me the old one to keep as a spare though, just in case.

If it's going to be $1350 for the whole job I definitely want to put in a claim. But for $650 it's probably not worth the hassle.
The Grand Marquis bumper covers are an order of magnitude cheaper according to ford's site.

Fordnut always says to look on ebay for a cheap knockoff - I'm not sure if they say Marauder on them or not - but they are new and can be had for much less then OE.
Sorry about that!
Good Luck

How about repairing the existing bumper cover? Anyone have luck with that (not just marauders obviously?)
Two 3" square holes punched in the back and passenger side chase bunched up a little. Looks like a heat gun and some clamps could straighten it back out though.
Seems like we should have metal bumpers again if this is a $1300 repair.

I had a 2" round hole in my Marauder cover repaired and repainted. It was very visible because the repair did not flex like the rest of the cover. I ended up bringing it back to the shop twice and the 2nd time Geico pony'd up for the new cover they should have bought in the first place.
I would not repair a cover unless the car is a beater. It will never be as good as replacing it, especially on the flexible, poorly-supported bumper covers these cars have - they move around a lot compared to say, an import.

Mine was covered by a "uninsured driver" claim, so there was no deductible, because the guy that hit it took off.
If the guy that hit you is insured, make his insurance fix it and pay for the OE part.
If it's just cosmetic (just scuffed, & not torn) it could probably be repaired & repainted.
The only way I would go for the cheap $400 cover is if I had to fix it myself & didn't have collision coverage, say if I just backed into a pole. Then I would just order it and take it to a bodyshop and have them paint it & I'd put it on myself.
Don't use the CV or GM cover. They don't say "Marauder" and they have those stupid looking "buttflaps" on them.

Geico has been okay to deal with. They did end up going to bat for me over the above work ^. Even though they were too cheap to write a new replacement cover in the first place, after the body shop manager got sick of me coming back multiple times (Darcars in Silver Spring) and refused to improve their lumpy repaired cover, Geico agreed to buy a new one and have it painted again.
