View Full Version : Windshield wipers half dead.

So I bumped my wiper control to cycle the wipers and clear morning dew, and the wipers went half way up, then stopped. I began my drive to work and 10 minutes into my drive, they cycled to the top, and 3/4 of the way back down, and stopped again.

I fiddled with the controls and realized high speed works reliably. All of the low speed modes, as well as the window washer mode (push in on control) no longer work.

My understanding of Ford wiper motor wiring is that they have constant power and ground, with an internal limit switch that causes the motor to cut the power to the motor when the wiper motor returns to the home position. The signal from the control bypasses the limit switch and causes the motor to run.

If that's the case, then I don't understand how this particular failure mode is happening. The high speed signal gets there, but the low speed signals do not. So, I guess it's a low speed relay or perhaps the timer/cycler box. Does anyone know where that stuff might be or does anyone have the EVTM for the '03 Marauder I can download?

Sounds like you're experiencing a variant of the 'wacky wiper' syndrome. That's the bad news. Good news is that it's an easy fix:

Sorry for posting a question about something that is even a sticky...my bad. Search more, ask less.

Thanks for the link; looks like I have a project for the weekend.

Hey, not a problem, there have been a number of different symptoms that arise from this, common issue, the drain holes and flap are typically all plugged up with crap causing a moisture problem within the control module that exhibits itself in various and sundry ways.

Let us know what you find out.

Just thought I'd follow up on this. I removed the drain flap about 60K miles ago and to date, no clogging. There's debris in there, but it doesn't clog up anymore. No other side effects.

The drain flap is there for a reason. Engineers just don't design thing for nothing. I'd reinstall it.

Car is almost at 200K miles. The drain is still clear (looked at it with my borescope) and there has been zero ill-effect of removing that drain flap.
