Well Enos, perhaps the previous owner marked it for some reason.

Previous owner lost the dipstick and replaced it with a longer one. Thats the full mark etched in the dipstick.

How the heck do you lose a dipstick anyway?
I would be afraid of it breaking off where they put the mark on it.

that is impossible!
Where did you buy this car? That's Frankie's old Marauder! Guys, remember Frankie? His screen name started with a number of some sort, 03 something. The older members know exactly why that mark is there, Frankie wanted to know exactly how much gas was in the tank when the mark was on "E", so he put the dipstick down the tank and notched it. I think this was back at the first Louisville gathering, but my memory is fuzzy. He was paranoid about running out of gas, kept a hundred dollar bill taped under the back seat just in case he ever ran out of gas, pop the back seat and check it out. I get half for a finders fee!

well if that's not the origional dipstick, maybe that one is longer then the factory one, that scratch is the full mark.

Dipsticks by the numbers, dipsticks by the score. This one I bet no one can find in the search archives. Good show! I would have bet that you wouldn't reach this point for YEARS. :2thumbs::high5::party::lol:

Please don't let this thread end. If it does the only kind of questions he will have left to ask is if the skid marks in his huggies will be good for his seats.

Sorry guys but I can't stand to see a kid losing sleep and being worried about his engine.
Like I said in my other post, the previous owner probably lost the dipstick and replaced it with a longer one. Hence why the notch was etched into the dipstick to show the full line. Nothing internal would cause that notch in the dipstick. You can replace it with a new dipstick if the notch bothers you.
Didnt you say in another thread that you owned a 700hp Supra and yet you had to start a thread to figure this one out? :shake:

Buy another new dipstick at the dealer and put it in amd see if you notice anything happening to it.
It's the only way to be shure if your not hearing anything that dosn't sound right while it's running.
You can also pick up a mechanics stethiscope and listen to the engine in the oil pan area to help.
Personaly I would not leave a damaged dip stick inside of the engine and take a chance on a piece of it snaping off and getting sucked up inside.

I would replace it with a stock one too. You never know if yours will decide to break off.

If Sherry Baby was 18 at the time the song was released in 1962, her birth year would be 1944. Subtract that from 2010, she's now 66, and probably has a nice retirement check and a time share down in Florida. If she comes out tonight, it will probably be around 6 p.m. at the Old Country Buffet.
