I got my timing cover and the second go round for my headers back from the coating shop today.
Here are couple before pics of the timing cover:

Headers and couple more cover shots. The flash made it difficult, I'll try to get some outside this weekend.

Looks good!
I can dig it, black goes with anything. What'd it cost?

The headers are black but the timing cover is a dark gray/charcoal metallic. It's almost like the gun metal colored mustangs but w/more metallic flake in it. Hard to get a good pic when using a flash, so I'll take a couple outside in the sun. It really pops when in the light and doesn't look nearly as black.
I plan on getting the cam covers done in this color and maybe a set of wheels.
The headers 1st time they got done were $250. This round was free because the original coating was flaking so they did it under warranty no questions asked.
The timing cover was $60 because it was a 2 step coating. Would have been $40 if I chose a gloss or flat color.

Thanks guys, I'm trying something a little different but think that once it all comes together it will be nice. After the all the engine area powder coating has been done I'll need to get a few things from Colex. Not sure if I will do the polished or satin finish for the coil covers and caps yet.
Now I need to find someone who wants to trade me their bare 04 Cam covers for the 03 black ones. Don't want to ruin a perfectly good set of the factory black covers by stripping and recoating them.

Post up in the For Sale section as a trade, you'll find someone!

Took the Cam covers to the coater today to make them match the timing cover. The wife is ordering me the Powered by Ford coil covers for Valentines day.
Next on the list will be various Colex caps, getting them powder coated silver with the coil covers, and door sills. Then black paint for all of the lettering.

Wow - you went coating crazy. Looks nice. (but) it will be a lot harder to spot an oil leak. I would have went with silver for the timing cover...
Still it's a very impressive job. I really hope the headers work out for you.
Can you please post a picture of the new windage tray VS stock windage tray??
Thanks! Keep up the great work.

Thanks guys, like I said something a little different, but I think it will all come together when finished. Silver was my first choice but when I saw the metallic charcoal I really wanted it. I think once I get the cam covers done in the charcoal and all the other items done in silver the engine bay will really pop with the 2 different colors.
Going to wait until I am ready for the eaton conversion before doing the rest of the items. Need to spread the cost out between projects because my accountant (aka the wife) is getting mad I keep adding on to this projects overall cost.
I still haven't ordered the windage tray but I am hoping to in the next week or so. Had to travel unexpectedly due to some family issues and that cut into my budget a bit so I am unsure of when I will order it.
Hopefully once everything goes back together I won't have to worry about any oil leaks. If it does happen the UV leak detecting stuff works great and will show up really well against the darker background.

Do we really need a windage tray?

Not really but it helps a little. From the factory the engine came with one but it only covers half the crankshaft so it still allows for some excess oil sling onto the crank. Excess oil on the crank can kill HP, but I am not sure of the impact on our cars/motors since the crank doesn't actually sit down in the oil pan like the push-rod motors.
According to the tech I spoke with at MMR, their windage tray is good for about 7-10 HP on a N/A car and adds a few more HP in boosted applications. For the price and since I have everything torn apart already it is a decent investment. It wouldn't be something I would pull the motor to do specifically but since I have it apart I think it's worth it.
Its sure nice to be able to see pics again.
Looking good!

That while it's apart list just keeps growing. Hey at least you got some silicone on the cheap, should make the wife fell better about it:D. Can't wait to see the final product keep up the good work .

She just rolls her eyes when I tell her I need something else now. She did appreciate the RTV once I told her how much it goes for. Going to put it to good use once I have everything at the house.
Just got the new power steering cooler, harmonic balancer install kit, and more heat sheilding for the underbody in from Summit today. The cam covers should be back next week and I still need to order the windage tray. Wondering what else I can fit in before she cuts me off.
No work on the MM this weekend because I will be going home to Massachusetts for a few days.

lmao Performance mods for safety reasons. She definitely knows better than that, unless I was talking about a big brake kit or safety loop.
There is a reason she calls my car "The Gold Digger", because I am constantly spending money "fixing things" but she know it's a better hobby than hookers and drugs.

Well just got off the phone with the powder coater. My Cam covers still won't be done today. :mad2:
Not sure if any of the members can comment who know more about this than me but he is stating issues with out gassing. He applied it once already and when I went to pick up the covers last week there were all these white spots.
He said he had to strip and coat them again. So I left them there expecting to have them back Tuesday. I call on Tuesday and he is having the same issues again so he is going to try an anti-out gassing coating and then put on the color coating again.
Well when I talked to him this morning he says the out gassing layer is affecting the color of the metallic coating because of a loss of conductivity when you add an additional layer. He said that they will need to strip them again and give it a go w/out the out gassing layer. Won't have them until next week now. :censor:
I think I will give him one more chance with the 2 layer metallic coating and if they can't make it work I plan on bringing the timing cover back and making him do all the pieces in a different color that won't be so hard to apply. I just want to get my motor back together and the car running again.
If any of the members with Powder coating experience can chime and let me know if this is BS or if just certain types of coating are just a pain it will ease my mind some. The guy is trying real hard but 2 weeks for something I should have had back in 4 days is killing me as this is screwing up my schedule and I will most likely miss this car show I really wanted to go to in March now.

PC is just like painting, some colors and what not are just a pain in the ass. i have never herd of this specific problem but when i had mine done, there were no issues.

Woo Hoo finally got my Cam covers back.
A couple of pics... I'll take some this weekend once the motor is all together.
Thinking about painting the block and Intake before assembly this weekend, just need to decide what I want to do for color and prep work. I figure w/the block and intake I can just clean them really well and hit them both w/Silver or Gray engine enamel.

Very awesome looking. I think they came out great. I'd go for silver on the block. Easy to spot any oil leaks.

Silver is what I am leaning towards. Figure clean the block and Intake w/lacquer cleaner, let it dry, and then spray them down w/either engine or exhaust paint. This way I don't have to bake the parts before install, and should be able to begin assembly the day after painting.
Nice, put them suckers on and take pics:beer:

Been crazy at work so today was the first day I could look at the cam and timing covers together. Took them out in the sun and the timing cover is noticably darker. Grrrr
Taking the timing cover back tomorrow because the cam covers were so difficult to get right the first time.
Yet another delay because of this. Was going to try to get it back together this month but not sure if it will happen.
