After I joined the Navy and became a homo, I decided to take up photography to keep a photographic record of my experiences. I am by no means an expert, but I do enjoy taking pictures, so I figured I'd share some of the 15,000 pictures I've taken in the last year.

I figure I'll put up a few each week to get caught up, then update as I take more.

For today, I'll post a few of the pictures I took yesterday while out shooting with some friends at the local Cypress Gardens.

Yeah, I'd also like to get the whole car in the shot. That's the only thing that really bugs me about it (and the car is dirty). I can just photoshop out the plates if people don't want them there.

^^^ I was just curious on what you could do, Chicago in my opinoin has a very unique skyline, but I'd leave it up to you to choose the perfect background, that's if you're not too busy. Unfortunately on my part I lack the skills to create one myself, so I have to bother you. ^^^

So it snowed pretty significantly here in Charleston, SC tonight, so I thought I'd snap some pics of it! I'd also like to note that driving the MM in the snow is intensely fun, I loved it!

I'll most likely be moving to New York for my next duty station, so I'll get to see plenty of snow then too. It's just highly irregular to see snow here in SC, so it was more of an event here. I think all in all it was about 9 inches of snow, nothing for snow dwelling people to get all excited about, it was just fun seeing it here.

Interesting pic this one!

We used to have a few people on the sight that achieved images such as this. Unfortunately, most of us have left.

I am a bit confused however, and would love to learn a bit more in regards to how you captured this image. What baffles me is that normally an image such as this is achieved using a primary macro lens such as a 90 or 100mm f1.8

Viewing your exif info (thanks for leaving it in the image btw), it indicates you shot this at 18mm and f-3.5. You obviously are using the bundled lens for the T1i. It also indicates a 1/25 exposure at ISO 1600!
There is no fingerprint indicating it was altered in CS4 as some of your other offerings.

Question one:
Did you hand-hold this exposure? If you did, you are the steadiest I have seen in awhile...particularly not using a high end DSLR.

Question two:
ISO 1600? Wow...that is serious low noise for the Rebel. I would expect noise out of that camera around 800. The Nikon D3 is the only camera I have ever used that shot 1600 and darn near up to 6400 in that light with that amount of low noise.

Question three:
I must know how that lens achieved that level of distortion and DOF at 18mm / f3.5
My primary 11mm f1.8 has excellent bokah at f1.8, but cannot even do that type of distorted subject, and costs more than the rebel body alone!
I use a primary 90mm f2.8 lens to do what you did up there!

So...please...educate me. Because I am ready to ditch my arsenal of Nikon bodies and lenses and start carrying a Rebel as my daily driver!

Yes, the lens that came with it has been great for most of my shooting. I have 2 other lenses, a 50mm 1.8f, and a 55-250mm.

Questions:
1. No, I used a tripod and a remote.
2. I generally don't like shooting ISO that fast, but I was limited on time since I couldn't actually set up the shot. It was run out there, snap the pic, and run back, so I had to set it before I even went out there. Some of the 1600 ISO images I have are particularly grainy, so it doesn't work all the time, I try to stay at 800 or less.
3. No idea, I'm fairly new to the photography scene, so I've only just barely scratched the surface of the mechanics of picture taking.

That last offering solves everything.
The two images are night and day apart.
I knew there was no way in hell you got bokeh that extreme from that lens!
I appreciate post processing to the extent of constrast, sharpening, and brightness, but changes this intriguing are what separates photography from computer processing.

Wonderfull image however.

Get a fast macro and you come very close to this without post process manipulation.

Went down to Florida for a friend's mom's wedding. It was an awesome trip! Beautiful weather, nice state. I'm definitely going to try and go back some day. I took over 500 pictures this last weekend, so it's going to be a while before I can sort them out, but I'll put up a couple I've already looked at.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm just an amateur, I just enjoy taking pictures of the places I go. If I ever am in your area, I'd love to shoot your cars, any excuse to take pictures is good enough for me!

So, I had a rather eventful day in Charleston! I got up early to go see the lighthouse at Folly Beach, but then I figured since I was down there, I may as well go exploring throughout the area! Funny you say that, I've been trying for 2 weeks to set that up. Last weekend was perfect beach weather, however when I went to the beach, there was absolutely nowhere decent to park the car for a photoshoot. This weekend was too cold, so the pickins were slim.

I've been slacking! Here a few highlights from the last couple of weeks... I also took a bunch of pics at a local auto-x, but I haven't gone through them yet!

The theater you see pictures of is the Hippodrome in downtown Charleston. It sports a 74 foot screen and authentic BMW 3 Series seats in Sea Foam Green. Pretty cool place, good staff, makes for an excellent movie experience! (Plus, they serve booze :D )

I went and checked out Middleton Place plantation today, pretty cool place! They used this location for a few scenes in "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. I don't know why, but I felt like shooting close to the ground today! :D

I'd also like to point out that those horses were flippin tall! I'm not around horses much, so I don't know how they range in size, but I'm 6'4" and was taking those pictures at my eye level.

My dad was in town this week for my graduation, so we did a lot of sight-seeing. I took almost 700 pictures, so I'll slowly be going through them and sharing the highlights.

Thanks man. I had a little trouble shooting a lot of the buildings because I don't have a wide angle lens and everything is so close together I can't get far enough back to get entire buildings. I definitely plan on making a return trip once I get set up with something that can zoom out a little farther.

What about the screw on wide angle micro lens?

Yeah, but you really do get what you pay for with lenses, and they are equally, if not more important than the camera body.

I have a Canon T1i and a Canon 7D.

How do you like the 7D?

Love it! I have a battery grip for it as well, so I can easily bump out over 2000 RAW images on a single charge.

You really need to use L glass with it though, the kit lens doesn't do it justice. I have the 24-70mm f/2.8L and it is a perfect match for the 7D. I've also been eyeballing the 70-200mm f/2.8L, but it's a little pricey.

Hopefully some day I'll be good enough to justify the 5D, but I don't think I'm ready to spend $2500 on a camera body.

Wow, those frames look sweet! I'm glad you enjoy the pictures, it means a lot to me that you enjoy my work. If even one person can get something out of it, that makes it all worth it.

I was in the process of setting up a permanent shop for people to get my photos, but then I went to sea for 9 months haha. I'll be getting that up soon to make it easier for people to get pics if they want them. As soon as I find a good local print shop, I'll let everyone know about getting prints shipped!

As usual, I haven't had a lot of time for photo hunting. I've been working locked night shift 7 days a week for the last month, so that's really been hampering me. Last night though, I got the night off so I decided to get a few shots of Seattle early morning. Here are a couple of my favorites:

BTW, what mountain is that in the back? Rainier?

Thanks man! There's a lot of competition around here though, it's pretty easy to get great pictures. Even on the random Tuesday morning that I was out there I was surrounded by people taking pictures of the sunrise. I'd love to see my photo in something here, but the photo market here is pretty flooded. Someday maybe :)

Real nice pictures Juice. I have family in Redmond & had been to Seattle twice. It is beautiful country out there. :up:
